I believe that homosexuals should not be allowed to serve in the military, but for a different reason -- I have seen firsthand how the presence of a known homosexual undermines morale and good order and discipline. In this particular unit this young woman (who was/is a lesbian) was a sharp troop, did excellent work, and even earned an Airman's Medal for rescuing a mother and her child from a burning building. No question that she could do the job and had the right attitude, but no one wanted to work with her and none of the NCOs wanted to supervise her because of her sexual orientation. We absolutely CANNOT have that in the military. Everyone MUST be able to trust the man or woman standing next to them with their very lives, and ANYTHING that gets in the way of that trust, no matter how seemingly insignficant or "wrong" in the eyes of the civilian community, must not be allowed. We cannot defend freedom effectively with homosexuals serving openly in the military, so before you bash me ask yourself this question: What's more important to you, catering to the minority or keeping your freedom?
P.S. The guy who answered your question after me is wrong on his numbers -- less than 1% of the U.S. population is gay.

I am very much against homosexuals in the military, but for an additional reason I haven't seen mentioned here. Combat is a thing that requires pure male responses to be effective and avoid getting someone else killed. What we called queers when I was young are not normal people. They are defective by definition. Will that defect cause them to hesitate doing what must be done in a killing situation? I don't want to find out. We know that hesitancy exists in women, bless their hearts, and since the homosexuals more often than not try to emulate women, I would not want one flying my wing. I'm sure this will offend all the bleeding hearts out there, but combat is not a place to play political football.

The guy who solved the German code in WWII was a homosexual. He probably saved more Allied lives than any other single individual. Ironically, he was later denied a security clearance because he was gay. Gay men (and probably women too) have fought and died to protect this country. The intelligence services have lost approximately 60 Arab translators simply because they are gay, so the war on Islamic extremism/terrorism is suffering as a consequence. There is a word for your way of thinking: "obsolete". And btw, I'm straight.

Why should someones sexual orientation matter if they want to help protect this country. It is sad that someone who quotes the Marine Corps would be so closed minded. 10% of the country is gay, so look around you and you do the math. Chances are someone you have been friends with is Gay. It shouldn't make any difference.

Who cares if there are gay people in the military. I am sure that they can do as good of a job as straight soldiers. If you want to be in the military it shouldn't matter. Don't you think if they start having a draft and don't allow gay people in that draft dodgers would use that as an excuse not to have to go?

I can't answer your question because I've never come across that expression PILLOW BITERS before. I have no idea what you're referring to .
You stuck that USMC in, so I have to assume you served in the Marine Corps. For that I thank you.
I can't congratulate you on your spelling or grammar though.

I don't think you should worry about who is a pillow biter. Do you see what is going on. Who cares about that. We want our families to come home and stop the madness with all the crazy problems in Iraq.

I don't think a persons sexuality should be made public - it is a private issue. On the other hand, I am not thrilled by the thought of a gay parade on our military bases either!

Of course they should! If a gay man was allowed to serve in the military, then all the chickenhawks in the Bush administration would have to admit that a gay liberal had more guts than they did!

I personally believe in Don't Ask, Don't Tell.
But 100% of the soldiers and Marines I ever talked to about it don't want them there.
