see how wrong dictionaries can be some time, even slightly?
Petros in ancient greek meant "of rock", in modern greek being "petrinos". it had the meaning of s/g as solid as a rock. rock=petra or lithos(lithography).
so,Peter or Petre, means solid as a rock.
