Many times people write that a book says this & that. I am thinking, books do talk sometimes.

Especially a particular verse from a Holy Bible.

Is it the Spirit behind the book?

It very well could be as the Holy Spirit is the one who will show you verses to jump out at you from the Bible.

Oh my god why are most people who answered this question so silly. A book speaking to you means that you think you can relate the story to yourself. (not a mental disorder)

Sometimes authors write stories based on their personal life experiences so of course, we can relate to them.

In the bible's case, it's different. The bible teaches us how to be faithful and good followers of God. Obviously it has meanings in which we can reflect upon and think to ourselves: Is this right? Has this happened to me before. (or) I don't think I had this reaction when I experience this situation

You can say that the holy spirit is there with you when you are reading the book bu most of the time the meaning is already contained within the bible itself.

I used to have a book that when you pulled a string it said "The cow goes mooooooo". :-)

I have had books that have resonated inside of me, if that is what you mean. I think its a semantics thing. I would not say its "the Spirit" as I am an atheist, but more that you deeply identify with the passage.

I was reading 'Lord of the Flies' once, and I thought the book was speaking to me.

Turns out that I just had the TV on too loud in the background.

No, not really. Nope. I just read them. Is it scaring you? Or maybe a long passed away family member is talking to you or something. A spirit from the past.

Ok, then when quoting a book, other than saying "This book says that..." what do you say?

If you said that "The book 'If You Give a Mouse a Cookie' tells the story of a boy who tries to please this mouse," does that mean that the book actually talks? NO.

If I was reading a book that started speaking to me, I'd put it down, walk down the street to the hospital and check myself into the psychiatric ward.

If I was ever reading a book, and it started "speaking to me", I would take that as a sign that I shouldn't have another drink.

when you read a book, do you automatically take everything in it as truth? IT'S JUST A BOOK!!!! I can write a book that says pigs can fly, does it make it true?

A book should only speak to you if you are blind and it's a Talking Book.
