Find out the cause. It is allways better to treat the cause than the symptom. Otherwise, it's like treating a toothache with pain pills instead of pulling the tooth. In the meantime, drink some gatorade, eat a banana, apply heat, stretch, and massage. Hopefully, that'll help until you can get eval. by a doc. - you do need checked for PVD. It could be blood clot in your legs, which is serious.

I've heard that when you wake up in the middle of the night with horrible leg cramps, it is a calcium and zinc deficiency. I use to get them all the time before I started taking a multivitamin. I hope that helps!

I heard that increasing potassium helps this. Are you pregnant (can't even tell your sex by your avatar)? Leg cramping increases during pregnancies. So, munch on a banana, avacado or some strawberries and this might help.

Dr Gott answered this problem for many leg cramp sufferers. He reports many people placing a small, wrapped bar of hand soap (no particular brand) under the bottom sheet of the bed near the bottom. Claims it works for many. No explanation excepts it seems to work

check Dr Gott's web site, I think he has one. He writes in some newspapers, he had a suggestion I think to put a bar of soap at the bottom of your bed. That's what I remember anyway, that's why I say to check to see if he has a web site.

Try magnesium supplements along with the bananas.I,ve had problems with this. They got so bad even on one day that I took them in 5 areas from my toes to my upper leg. Stretching and walking them out wasn't helping.I remembered my Mom had said that they can go up as far as your heart which is just another muscle.I called my son, took 5 of his magnesium, called a naturopathic doctor who told me also to take some liquid magnesum, then I went to outpatients at the hospital. The first thing that the doctor said was that I must be low in magnesium. After a few hours the cramping subsided. So the magnesium is the key!Good luck with it!

Try eating bananas and drinking more water. Also stretch (carefully) before bed.

Also try stretching your calves. You can lie in bed straight and flat, and keep your knees locked and move your toes upward toward your head. You should get a nice stretch in the calves.
