While I can not give you the answer I might be able to help you find out. There might be a few restrictions but you could start by using what information you do have and contacting either the official naval website or even if you have a us embassy near you they might have some ideas as well. You will need the exact dates that this vessel and others were there. Was it part of a multi nation exercise in the area. Do you know what type of ship we are looking for.(carrier, destroyer etc) Is there a local paper that would have archived articles that far back. 35 years is a long time. I would start with your local reference section in the library and perhaps one of the workers can help you locate the archived media of the event. From there it really will depend on what and why you are looking for specifically. If you are seeking someone who was perhaps stationed on the ship there are websites for crew members of naval ships and people who are looking for them. Once you find out the name you can search further through proper channels if needed. Good luck.

The mention in the email about a cable laying vessel means it might not have been a Navy ship. It could have been privately owned or corporate. If I remember correctly it was at that time there were quite a few ships involved in laying trans-continental cable for various communications companies. I would include this when contacting the port master or historic center as well. Good Luck

I'm sure a LOT of U.S. Navy ships pulled in there in 1973. What class of ship was it? Destroyer, amphib, carrier...
