My female friend has been in a long distance relationship with a guy for a bit over a year....He can only come to see her rarely but they seem in love. Her complaint is that he has never given her any sort of gift. She insists its not the material aspect she is after .
He came recently after her not having seem him for quite a long stretch and she had some gifts prepared for him. She was quite wounded he came and left without giving her anything. He is well off by the way...
My first reaction was to tell her that he is the one coming to see her so he does incur travelling expenses, hotel and such...but she keeps insisting this has nothing to do with how expensive the gift is, just the thought....I really don't know what to tell her? What do you think?

Detail added: Birthdays, christmas and valentines have all come and went she says...

Men and women look at gifts completely differently. Guys really dont care if we get them, so its not something we really spend a lot of time thinking about. Tell her to quit worrying. If the truth was known....men dont really put a lot of thought into gifts at all, we wait till the last minute, buy the first thing we see.

She needs to end the ldr and find someone closer to home. LDRs are hared to deal with and usually dont work out, b/c you never get to know the persone, even if you do spend a few days together every now and then, you can still put on a nice front. I'm not sure that he cares if he has missed her birthday and other holidays. I understand that its not all about material gifts but a phone call would be nice.
