Outlook Express opens when I click the icon as usual. Then it flashes the 'downloading mail' message forever, but nothing gets through. I am on line. I can go to Internet Explorer to surf the web. Just no mail.

It can be a problem with your mail server from your ISP. Wait and try it again later, or sometimes someone has sent you a really big message which causes this problem if you have dial-up. If you have dial-up you might want to try waiting a long time (like overnight) to see if you get the message into your inbox.

If you have access to your email via some sort of webmail format, you can check this. Also in the past, I have downloaded a mail program that allows me to see the headers and sizes without downloading. This way I was able (when I still used dial-up) to delete the oversized message.

If you do have dial up, then you may try setting up the mail account on a machine with broadband and checking it again on that machine. Huge files come in in seconds.

If you have not changed your settings, then this would not be the problem, so don't mess with them.

Check your pop email server settings again and verify that you can connect to the server using telnet. In a dos window (type cmd in start->run>

telnet 110

If you receive an OK or something similar, you can connect fine, and need to look at the email server settings.

If you do not connect, look for firewall blocks.

Hope this helps
