I just got out of the hospital 3 days ago and they suggested to use an Ace-wrap but I've heard of people using cabbage leaves. Do they really work?
And are there other ways to help?

ok.. using cabbage leaves really really work but it will dry up your milk supply if you use continuously. to use them, just put a few leaves in the freezer for 10mins and drape them on your breast. remember - if you do this continuously, it'll deplete your milk supply....

are you bottle feeding breast milk or formula? if u want to stop breast feeding entirely, do the cabbage leaves thingy... else just pump your breast for 5 - 10 mins to relieve your engorgement. or you can just use cabbage leaves for about 20 mins... not too long tho...

hope this helps! :)

Cabbage leaves work!!!

When one of my girlfriends had her daughter, her breast engorged badly! We read on the Internet about the cabbage leaves. We couldn't believe how well they worked. Something about cabbage has anti-inflammatory agents in it.

Also, another tip we learned the hard way was that if you compress your breasts, to wear a normal bra underneath a sports bra before wrapping. If not...your breasts will take on a square shape for a while...hehehe. Not really a big deal but after having a child, everything seems more important than what it really is.

Good Luck!

If your not going to give it a try at least DO NOT PUMP! That will make your body think you need the milk and it won't dry up b/c your using it. They gave you the best advise Ace wrap them tightly. Cabbage leaves are more for sore nipples from BF.

After I was done nursing, my mother and mother-in-law suggested the cabbage leaves, along with a wrap and sports bra. It will be uncomfortable for a while, but will soon stop your breasts from producing milk. Use the leaves until they are wilted and change them often. Just keep on that wrap and sports bra. Whatever you do - DO NOT PUMP - as that produces more milk!

I put cabbage leaves around my breasts with ice packs and wrapped them as well. I wouldn't suggest you pump them as that will encourage your breast to make more milk. The cabbages worked for me. Also when you shower put your back to the water because heat and touch will encourage them as well.

It sure is "Agonizing" isn't it?!!! The only suggestion I would say to do, is allow your baby to releave some of that "pressure" but only when it gets to being so overwhelming that you just cannot take much more pain!! I feel for you, hun!! Most of us women who do nurse eventually have to go through that as well, but we just slowly allow our babies to nurse every so often to get rid of the pain! And then just grin & bare it, you know. I thought women who opted not to nurse, while in the hospitol, got a shot to dry out the milk? My sister did..... And she never once complained of her breasts hurting her!! What they dont do that anymore, or you just didn't want the shot? HM? Strange. Well hope your milk will dry out quick, so you wont have to agonize much longer, hun!! There really isn't much you can do, except put maybe a warm cloth on them, to ease some of the discomfort.. An ace wrap will only make them hurt worse, trust me, you barely even can touch them, when there full of so much pressure!!! I would just get the softest cloth in your house, and put some warm water on it, and carefully wrap it around all of the area's that hurt the most!! Otherwise just get a pump and releive some of the pressure, but remember the more you pump, or allow your baby to nurse a tad, the more your breasts will make milk, same thing when he cries! Every time he cries, your milk will come in, atleast until they completely dry out, that is.... Best of Luck to you, hun! smile!!!

Whatever you do DON'T pump...all thats going to do is stimulate your breasts to make more milk...ace wrap is good, bind yourself up nice and tight, never heard of cabbage leaves

You could use a breast pump. Or maybe use ice packs?? I'm not really sure. I would recommend pumping if you prefer bottle feeding.

Other ways to help? Yes, breastfeed your baby! It's free.
