I'm getting a Aussie Sheperd puppy but it's mother is moving across the country. It's not old enough to leave her yet but its' owner travels back and forth from where they're moving to where I live so by the time it's 8 weeks it'll be able to leave it's mother. Is it ok if it flies?

I can't believe what you've gotten for answers!

Yes, your puppy can fly. Thousands of breeders regularly ship their puppies to new homes via planes. People who breed show dogs ship puppies all over the country as well as internationally to their new homes.

I've shipped puppies via plane as well as had puppies fly to me and have never had a problem. A good idea is to contact the shipping and receiving office of the airline ahead of time to let them know the flight #, arrival time, and that there will be a puppy on the plane. In my experience, the airline staff have always been really good about unloading a puppy first.

It is just fine to fly a puppy. However, be very careful what airline you use. There are a few wonderful airlines that keep the animals in a climate controlled area (not with baggage) with staff that watches over them. This is the best situation if the pup can not fly in the cabin with its owner. This is what I had done when I had to ship my sister's dog from Las Vegas to my home in Florida.

Good luck to you and your pup!

Well, there is little oxygen supply, the temperatures are not comfortable and the pressure can be very bad for them underneath in the cargo hold... It's usually OK for the older dogs but never ideal. I don't think a puppy should go in the cargo hold but it should be fine if you bring him up on the main level where you sit, in a carry on ( you know, one of those suitcases made for smaller dogs) As long as he fits in it, he should be fine... If you want to bring a larger crate to fit him you will probably have to buy another seat, which can be costly. Call the airlines to see what their policy on that is! Good luck!

Most people including myself bring the pup into the cabins of the air plane with them. A pup that young can fly in the cabin of most airlines and not placed in the cargo area under the plane.

I have flown with pups that young either in my lap or in a carrier under my seat.
