I am sorry for your loss. Your puppy probably had Parvo which is a very serious disease in young dogs that is highly contagious and happens when puppies are not vaccinated and exposed to other sick dogs. It could have been something else that made your dog sick. I think the first thing you should do is visit the RainbowBridge.com - a website for grieving pet owners. It has a lot of wonderful information and counselers for you to talk to about your loss.
Second I think you need to seriously address what happened to your puppy. This is hard - you need to really look at what you could /should have done that maybe could have either saved your dog or prevented your dog from becoming sick in the first place.
Whatever you do - DO NOT just get another dog - you need to find out where you failed with this dog and be sure not to make the same mistake again. If it was infact Parvo - your entire house needs to be cleaned (with bleach prefferibly) and the yard should be treated. It's hard to face mistakes - but ultimately you will become a better and more responsible pet owner for doing so.

I am so, so sorry for your loss. I had a 2 year old Husky who was hit by a car and killed this past January. Molly was my life and I am still devastated by her sudden departure. Our dogs can become our best friends, there is no way to ever completely get over the loss, and we will never forget the way they touched our lives. I filled the void in my life with a new friend. His name is Simon and he's a black lab mix. He will never EVER replace my baby girl, and I don't think I'll ever feel for him what I feel for her, but he is becoming a good friend already. Some people can't get a new dog right away, but it's really helped me. I know Simon and I will be great buddies, and I know Molly would have been his friend, and she wouldn't want me to be lonely. I still think about her every day, I can't look at her ashes without crying, but Simon is there to understand and comfort me when I need a furry friend to hug.
Again, I am sorry for your loss, I hope what I have said helps you. Just take each day as it comes, and never forget the memories you shared with your Cojoe.
~I am also appalled by some of the insensitive respoces by some people, it is too bad they will never understand the love and special bond a person and their dog can share.

When someone close to us dies, we have to grieve. I wonder if you have had any wake, or other ceremony to say goodbye? It is a good idea. Even if you have kind of a party this weekend, it will be a way to celebrate Cojoe's life. I might seem weird to have a party, but that dog would have brought you joy, and in joy you can remember him with your friends. This is why we have funerals. We need a ritual to help us recognize the parting. Just like we have a bon voyage party when someone sails off on a long cruise. We are not happy that they are leaving, we are happy that they are going to a nicer place.

To responsible owners, dogs are like a member of the family. It's tough when they die, especially if they die early. Did you ever take him to the vet to see what was wrong with him? Just try again, and get all the needed vet check-ups (I know they're expensive, but it's part of owning a dog).

aww, you should of brought him to a doctor, and german shepherds are my favorite dogs too, i wish i could get one but i live in my mothers house and she doesn't like dogs. maybe you could get a new one or so, but yeah, everybody get over death on their own way, so i don't know how it would go for you, but once you hit high school or so, i think they teach you about death and grief and stuff but yeah.

I hope you never get another dog and put them through this agony until you learn to take them to a vet for care.

get another one. I know it might sound mean, but get another one and just know that your dog was great and you will remember it.
