That's terrible, buttercup. I honestly believe that the Christians out there who send such hateful mail are probably trolls of themselves. It sounds to me like you've got a few really annoying jerks on your hands. There are a lot of Catholics I know who are getting the same kind of treatment. It's a shame that religion causes such animosity amongst people. It is why I am proud to be an agnostic-atheist (humanist- logicist - vitaminicist- thingist;-)

Just the other day, as you know, I had a "Christian" pray that an atom bomb would fall on my town so I could really "understand science". I know it shouldn't, but it still makes me giggle. It's really good to see some Christians here that don't tolerate this kind of behavior.

I wish we could ignore the ignoramuses but lots of these bright lights report questions too. I guess Yahoo Answers violations has a new "Logic" category that forbids some users from using any. Report those who are sending you mail and include the mail sent in the "comments" box. I know it won't get you terribly far because these people multiply and spread like gremlins but at least it's a way to send them off for good. You may also want to think about either opening a new account specifically for Answers and keeping the one you have now for friends, or vice versa. I'm not sure how it would work for a 360 page - check that out before making a decision if this is an idea you like.

Anyhow, buttercup, all the best. I'm on the lookout for these evil trolls too.

*Wow, I wish Anno and the annoying dude in the sunglasses could show us the "hate mail" they received and tell us who it was from. No atheists I know on here send nasty e-mails and I know quite a few. It's a shocker, alright - the religious folk who say they receive these e-mails can never back it up. There are bad apples in the bunch everywhere, but I'm noticing these "atheist" complaints are getting louder and louder - not because they're actually true but because some people can find no other way to prove themselves "right" without attacking others. I have never seen so many Christian factions attacking Catholics and yet it doesn't shock me. I feel badly for the Catholics, who don't seem to be attacking too many people at all. I think hate mail is sent when someone is so insecure in themselves they have to angry at someone else because they cannot cope. It's borderline personality disorder. In a way, I feel sorry for them too. I sure as heck wouldn't want one at my doorstep though. ;-)

I agree. Anyone that does this to me is not a Christian. I get hate emails all the time from people who proclaim they are Christians. Iam a Christian and because I follow a different belief system, they feel they have the right to slam me and send me hateful things. It is wrong. If they are Christians, they should act like it. Hate is not a trait of Christ and is not part of the Christianity that I know. Iam Catholic and get slammed all the time.

Sadly, apparently they are not.

I've been advocating meaningful dialogue, but the problem is that most fundamentalist Christian evengelicals resort to hurling flaming insults when they come across a question that they can't answer.

The issue is that Christians want to be RIGHT, as do we all. They start letting the issue get personal.

I've encouraged as many Christians on here as will read my Q&A to be respectful of people that disagree with their beliefs (as was Jesus). And I've tried to point out that Jesus and the Apostles (and successful missionaries since the time of the apostles) always forged relationships with people before they started talking about sin and salvation.

I welcome a dialogue with Christians and non-Christians where we can have mutual respect for one another and discuss things dispassionately.

Are they from one or two people, or several?

There are a few folk here who just like to cause trouble. They're intentionally inflammatory. One that I have experience writes primarily as a fundamentalist Christian, but seems to have an atheist 'alter-ego' (based on some idiosyncrasies of language).

If it's just from one or two, you're probably getting trolled by people who don't care what you think, all they want is to see you get mad or upset.

There are plenty of Good Christians who will go out of their way to 'lovingly' inform you of the direst of consequences if you don't conform to their lifestyle choice. But 8 in 5 days sounds more like an attention-seeking brat to me.

There are people on this forum, more than one, who don't believe that you are human. Christianity is only for Christians no one else should expect decent treatment. And they've always been that way all the way back to the beginning with almost perfect consistency!

I think it may be the heavy saturated fat diet of bacon and eggs for breakfast or they may not know the benefits of thrice daily Metamucil natural psyllium fiber, they can get backed up and it taints their whole outlook with ....well You must get the idea. If they became vegetarians they would be much sweeter, inside and out.

Christians send hate-filled emails? Surely not... aren't they supposed to be the ones preaching forgiveness and turning the other cheek and all that stuff?

You should not let others actions taint how you see their religion. Just understand that at times, it is hard to follow the teachings of the church.

Just forgive them for being hate filled and pray that they may be beacon's of God's love.

Maybe because you made them question some of their own beliefs? Normally those who respond in a hateful manner are those who are insecure with their own selfs.

Hey Buttercup,
I would remove my email if I were you.
You never know who is emailling you or who you are really talking to on the internet!
People may not be what they pretend to be....protect yourself and be wise.

:)
