Truth or fiction aside, people are so worried about what their children are exposed to, yet they force these horrably grotesque stories on them. What gives?

Of course it's wrong. Telling them about Hell is wrong too.

Everything read in the bible must be read according to the context. the incest you mention was supossedly when the earth had a very limited population, Lot had children by his daughters. No big deal and the bible does not condemn the act at all in that instance. It was only after the population of the Jews became larger and the gene pool was beginning to go down hill that God gave them the prohibition against incest. AND He ONLY gave that prohibition to the Jews! Not the entire world!

As for when children should be told these things or allowed to read the stories....That is entirely up to the parents. Different cultures will have different time frames when children should learn about sex and violence. There are primitive tribes where the children see and in a limited way experience sexuality from a very early age. It is curious that those same cultures have little or no violence and absolutly no rape. Food for thought.

We do need to be aware of age appropriateness.

The Bible tells the story of God and people. As such, it would probably be rated "R" in places for sexuality and violence.

Just like all reading material, it is the parents' or teachers' responsibility to make sure children are properly supervised.

Although I must say the the average comic book contains stories that are more "horribly grotesque" than any the Bible.

With love in Christ.

Nah, murder and incest are great for the kids, just don't show them the beauty of a nude human being or tell them about the miracle of two people loving each other, cause that will really f- them up for life.

You are obviously not a Christian. That is why you don't know that Christian children are taught according to their age.No one is forcing anybody.Furthermore, inform yourself before making ignorant comments about THE BIBLE.
