the thought has been with me for 6 years it started after my grandmothers death and has been growing since then now it seems like it has goten worse since I became a teenager I was close to her and now I am thinking that if I kill myself that it will put me closer to her. My friends know about it and they took my oblec away from me today to keep me from cuting myself. I know that they love me in all but sometimes I wish they would leave me alone. I think that if it were them they would say the samething and I would proball take their stuff away. I think that it is my life and I wish they would see that. But they are looking out for me.

Dear Megan,
A lot of people struggle with depression. It usually starts with a big loss and for some people it never really goes away. This isn't a weakness or your fault it's a very common imbalance of something our bodies produce called Seratonin. Somethings give us a boost of seratonin:
Chocolate
Shopping
Gambling
Alcohol/drugs
sex
coffee
cutting/ocd/ repetetive activities that numb us to our feelings

Unfortunatley most of these end up being used to "self medicate" the imbalance of Seratonin which our bodies normally produce. This self medication can cause many more problems and never solves anything. There are a class of very simple medications which are called antidepressants. These meds aren't only for "depressed" people they're also for people who show any compulsive type behaviors which is usually indicative of an imbalance. These meds are SSRI's; they're Seratonin ReUptake Inhibitors and can balance you out again. If you're a teen you must be extra careful to have your dosage closely monitored by a qualified doctor. You don't need to suffer like this. The depression is taking your precious days away from you. The fog under which you're living can be lifted if you see a doctor. I'm sure your mom and dad will be totally open to taking you to a doctor, if you tell them that you don't feel good emotionally. The fact that things seem hopeless, the fact that the cutting helps you feel better are indications that you are under this fog. Allow the fog to be lifted. Allow yourself the chance to feel balanced. Taking your own life would be a horrific waste and it would be decision made without clearity. Once you're cleared of this fog, you won't want to hurt yourself. I really hope that you'll trust me in telling you that it's simpler than you think.
If someone is in a mine and they're breathing carbon dioxide they will begin to feel like they're suffocating eventhough there's air all around them. A simple source of air will fix their suffering. It seems simple but that's all thereis to it. Please tell your parents or a trusted adult to make this appointment for you or if you're old enough make it yourself. I don't know a single doctor who'd even charge you if you make an appointment for thoughts of suicide even if you have no money to pay him/her. If it sounds simple, it is. Don't suffer and please don't think that not being alive is the only way to end the suffering, because it is NOT. You'll feel like you were meant to feel.... Lift the fog by seeing a doctor and you won't feel bad any more....

The meaning of life is to survive and to reproduce. If you are religious or not you should avoid hurting yourself because thats against your survival instincts. Take it one day at a time. If you are young then remember that you have a whole life ahead of you so just keep going because you will miss out on a lot of cool stuff ;) trust me you dont want to miss it. If you over 80 and about to die go see a psychiatrist for an evaluation. I wont lie to you, I have had the same feelings but I never cut myself because what is the point? Btw something big is going to happen in the next 10 years so you should wait and see what it is, I wont ruin the surprise for you.
Stay away from the antidepressants they just make stuff worst and take a vacation.

Are you in therapy? Stuff like this is complicated. You'll need a good therapist, and likely, some anti-depressants.

If you're in school, therapy programs exist, often at a very low cost. Figure out what is hurting you in life, and remove those influences from your life.

You have to take care of yourself, and you have to find experiences that are rewarding for you.

I lost my mom to cancer in 1997-I was 30- I also cut myself & stuff(drank, made thing's worse) because I was hurting soooo bad to not have her in my life anymore, & I was & still am a christian, I knew better!! Was'nt thinking right! I did see psyc.s & put me on med's that actually made me more suicidal(6! different med's-WRONG dr.!!) I have to say, time doe's help, but alway's will miss them, I'm so sorry for your lose,I do know how you feel, but, hon, we have to remember, they would be sooo sad to see us hurting ourselve's, when they're finally free & happy!! it's taken me year's of pain to accept that- I just hope you find some peace w/ it sooner than I did.Your still so young,Please try to find a therapist to help you deal w/ your feeling's, med's aren't alway's the answer, sometime's they are, but, try talk therapy first.God bless & it's good you have friend's looking out for you!!

When something painful feels "good" then you have major pain somewhere else in your life .
You are probably cutting to distract yourself from the other pain . . .
Is there a counselor at your church or school ?
When you identify where your bigger pain is ,
Then you can seek a way to stop it and then the good things for real , will attract you instead of the self inflicted pain .
There are beautiful gardens , parks and beaches that are far superior to cutting for feeling good .

as i person who's has been diagnosed as bi-polar and a former self harmer, i beg you to seek professional help , for years i refused to seek medical help and i suffered needlessly, self harming is not done to shock other people far from it its extremely personal and sufferers tend to go to great Lents to hide it. people tend to self harm when in a emotionally overwhelming situation that they cant handle or their life seems to be out of their control, they cant express themselves in other ways or are simply not being heard, your self injury could stem from the fact that your showing clear sign of depression. depression can be an extremely isolating and debilitating disease, that not many people understand or want to understand, you probably have a lot of suppressed emotion, and for a few moments self harming allows you to release all your built up tension, and gives you a sense of relief.self injury is a coping mechanism just as others turns to drugs, or alcohol etc and I'm sure you agree that none of those things are healthy ways to deal with ones problems, please get help, it wont be easy, but either is what your going through now. good luck

you need to talk to someone. if possible, someone older and more mature like your parents, teacher, guidance counselor, psychologist or psychiatrist. You may even seek help from your pastor, minister or priest. they would know what to do.

this thought of suicide may just be an off shoot of a difficulty (perceived or real) that you are experiencing. in other words, there may be something that triggered this thoughts and you need to identify it or them. sometimes, it is difficult to confront our own "ghost" or "demon" that is why I am asking you to go and talk this out with a resposible adult.

on the other hand, I am glad that you are aware of your situation. Your awareness and acceptance of this difficulty is the first step toward its solution. it is so difficult to help someone who is in denial. and in your case, you already know that there is a difficulty, so it will not be so difficult to find solutions to this dificulty.

heres what helped me. i became a christian, but before you cringe and say oh no another loop head. it will cure your problems, it will make you realize that killing yourself may actually put your soul into a dangerous situation, like jumping out of the frypan into the fire-literately. instead of wasting your life, ask gods spirit to possess you and take control. he will open your eyes so you will see the real truth and will teach you things about this world
that's hidden from many. he will enable you to bear good fruit and take control of the chaos in your life
and bless you beyond comprehension. you will be shaped into a strong personality and actually look back like i did in shame and embarrassment at these things. you will become content with life and learn deep secret truths, please trust me, this will change you. ask for gods holy spirit to live in side of you, you will not regret it. your mind will be made totally anew. get a study bible, i have a living bible. it will teach you everything about life, and why the world is so evil. it will teach you that bad is not good, and good is not bad- typical of what the world teaches. good luck if you decide to take this path- i pray that god comes upon you and reveals himself to you! take it in your stride, one foot at a time!

What is the problem why are you doing this? Ask yourself will you benefit from this. How do you think you will feel if you saw someone else doing this? what would you say to them? You are a better person than this behaviour, be good to yourself, you deserve to be good.
