there's always the deli meat trays from the super market, fresh veggies and fruits, cheese and crackers, spinach and/or crab dip, 7 layer dip, meat balls, little sausages, or just BBQ.

Hi. I'm an aspiring chef and caterer.
My suggestion which is something I do all the time is to try pulled pork bbq in the crock pot. Sooo good and really easy to make. And you barely have to do any work.
Buy a pork roast, depending on the size of your crock pot bone in. Add that to the crock pot with about a cup of water and a splash of vinegar. Slice a medium onion and add that in too. I also add just a few cloves that I insert into the roast and a pinch of red pepper flakes. Just put the lid on and cook on low for 8 hours. Or on high for 3-4. You will know when its done when the bone pulls from the meat. Take out the entire thing, remove bones and fat and shred w/ a fork. put it back into the crockpot with a bottle of bbq sauce. My fav is sweet baby rays. Heat it on low for as long as you want till your ready to eat. I suggest serving on potato rolls with sliced onions. Potato salad or a pasta salad is great along side. Also my favorite birthday snack are funfetti cupcakes made by the betty crocker cake mixes. You can buy little gummies or other fun treats to decorate the little cupcakes. These recipes are so easy to make and always a crowd pleaser. My eaters are always satisfied =]

I would do the cold cut platter that someone mentioned but also a baked pasta dish. Penne or rigatoni in a 4 cheese sauce - some sauteed mushrooms and cooked diced pancetta dresses up a store bought sauce if you really need something easy- then top with seasoned breadcrumbs and bake. It is a fast and do-ahead alternative to lasagna or other more complicated baked pastas.

make a salad bar with meats and salad dressings and different breads , and cheeses that way people can make a salad or sandwiches you could even add a soup if you like like a good potato soup .all of this is easy not much to keep warm ,put the soup in a crock pot ,or two if you want more.just keep the salad stuff cold and the meats with an ice tray under them put tomatoes sliced so they are flexible, green onions whole in water glasses like a decoration pretty and edible.toss all kinds of lettuces together, bag baby carrots, celery sticks, radishes, cheeses cubed and slices, olives different kinds, deviled eggs, bacon bits, etc french, ranch Italian etc, ham, turkey salami etc.

Potato soup

6 potatoes diced
1 onion chopped
water to cover simmer till done add 2 cans cream of celery soup 2 cans milk salt ,pepper to taste leave the water they were cooked in don't dump easy easy! this way you get to set back and enjoy instead of being wore out

A meat and cheese platter to make sandwiches. Just have condiments, rolls, meat (turkey, ham and roast beef) and sliced cheese (american, swiss and pepper jack). Use paper plates silverware etc and you won't have too bad of a clean up either. You can always add garnishes like olives, pickles, deviled eggs and snacks like veggies and dip, chips and pretzels. Just make sure your baby gets her own cake to smear all over her face!

Spinach Dip is really easy: you need one bag of frozen chopped spinach, 8 oz of sour cream, 1 packet of spinach dip seasoning and 1 packet of Hidden Valley Ranch seasoning. Thaw and drain (thoroughly) spinach, when dry mix all ingredients together. I usually mix half of everything at first and gradually add the remaining. It's very easy and tasty. You can serve with sliced baguette pieces, crackers, pretzels, anything you wish!

How about roasted vegetables instead of the usual raw crudite? Roasted mini potatoes were a huge hit at my last party and super easy to do. Just put them on a pan with oil, salt and pepper and roast them at 400 degrees until tender.

Everyone loves cheese. Choose your favorite.

For something more substantial that can be served as part of a buffet, try my Seafood Casserole

Seafood Casserole

The highly flavorful sauce in this dish dresses up any seafood combination. The recipe calls for crabmeat, flounder and shrimp, but you could use any combination you wish or make whatever changes you wish. Substitute lobster, or omit the flounder and make it strictly shrimp and crab or lobster and shrimp. The choice is yours, the total amount of seafood you will need is 18 ounces.

Ingredient

For the white sauce:
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
2 tablespoons flour
sea salt or house seasoning, to taste
freshly ground black pepper, to taste
1 1/2 cups half & half
1 teaspoon dried tarragon
2 teaspoons dried dill
Tabasco, to taste

For the seafood:
3 tablespoons unsalted butter
1 medium yellow pepper, finely chopped
1 medium yellow onion, finely chopped
1 cup sliced mushroom thinly sliced
1 teaspoons sea salt or house seasoning
a few twists of freshly ground black pepper
1 teaspoon herbs de provençe
1 1/2 cups white sauce
1/2 cup Hellmann’s or Best Foods mayonnaise
1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
2 cups cooked rice
3 tablespoons freshly grated Parmesan cheese
6 ounces crabmeat, flaked
6 ounces cooked flounder, halibut or hake, flaked
6 ounces cooked shrimp, shelled and cut into pieces
1/2 cup soft bread crumbs from about 6 slices best-quality white bread

Method

Heat the oven to 350°. Spray a 2 quart casserole with non-stick cooking spray.

For the white sauce:
Melt the butter over low heat in a heavy saucepan. Blend in flour, salt and pepper; cook over low heat, stirring until mixture is smooth and bubbly. Remove from heat, stir in milk, tarragon, dill and Tabasco. Return to heat and bring to a boil; boil 1 minute, stirring constantly. Cook over low heat until thickened, about 10 minutes. Taste to correct salt and Tabasco.

For the casserole:
Melt the butter in a large heavy skillet over moderately low heat. Add the bell pepper, onion and mushrooms. Cook, stirring frequently, until the liquid has evaporated and the pepper and onions begin to color; season with salt, pepper and herbs de provençe after the aromatics have been cooked.

Remove from the heat and stir in the white sauce, mayonnaise, and mustard. Stir in the rice and Parmesan cheese. Gently fold in the crabmeat, flounder and shrimp; spoon the mixture into the prepared casserole.

At this point the casserole can be cooled to room temperature, covered tightly with foil and refrigerated up to 8 hours.

Sprinkle the bread crumbs over the top and bake, uncovered, for 30 minutes or until the casserole is heated through and the top is golden brown. If baking after refrigerated, bake tightly covered with aluminum foil for 20 minutes, then uncover, sprinkle with the bread crumbs and bake 30 minutes more or until heated through.
