I wouldn't put it that way!
It is not specifically stated how they consulted with the Lord. Also, not anyone could consult or even enter the tabernacle of the meeting - that was a task of the Levites, as the Lord commanded Moses and Arron! If you remember the accident of Uzzah - who tried to hold the ark of the covanant as it was slipping. God was not please with such 'human help', and as a consequence, Uzzah was striked by God and died there and then - so much that David feared greatly!

The Jews didn't keep God in the tabernacle. His presence was visible to them as a light above the mercy seat that covered the ark of the covenant that held the 10 Commandments. When the Jews (Israelites) kept disobeying God and finally killed His only Son that He sent to die for our sins, He finally pulled His light away and the veil between the Holy Place and the Most Holy Place was torn by unseen hands from the top to the bottom! That ended the sacrificial system not needed anymore since the Lamb of God had been sacrificed.

Hello, Show-nuff:
To answer your question, God exited the sanctuary very rapidly and without rubbing or assistance.
In one example, after He opened the ground and consumed some who thought they were more capable than Moses, then--well, you can read what happened as recorded in Numbers 16:35: "And there came out a fire from the LORD, and consumed the two hundred and fifty [unconcentrated] men that [improperly ]offered incense."
Let this be a warning to preachers who think to invent their own doctrines, extort money from the church, molest children, and do not otherwise follow the dictates of the Great I AM.
Many sincere people think God does not know about our problems today, yet they were described in the Bible years in advance. Take for example Mohammedanism. That dilemma is at the Internet publication: "The Rise, Decline, and Death of Islam as Predicted in the Bible". It is worth reading at: www.revelado.org/islam.htm
Blessings and peace, One-Way
