I'd go with play sets and mega blocks. He'll start using his imagination and developing his motor skills more.

Animals are a great present..teaches the responsibility with the feeding and care. And, if he already does enjoy the fish, I'd say turtles would be appropriate. Or maybe a small fish tank of his own with a beta (no filter required and they are beautiful & fun to watch!)
My son also loved things that moved, motorized cars (remote controls) and bouncy (there's a tigger that bounces all around when you push him down.) Happy bday to him!

Swing gadgets are great, yet actually at that age you never can tell what they're going to take to. He probably has an obsession with something, suited? maximum boys that age do. automobiles, dinosaurs, airplanes, trains, canines, etc? i might discover something to do with that. It would not must be costly. My son has countless acquaintances all age 18-24 months and that they seem to love something with wheels. They love the Little people automobiles, exceedingly the school bus. Or the Mega Block Wagon crammed with blocks. Does he already have a Radio Flyer Wagon? all of them love being pulled around the community in those!

a two year old can be impressed easily but if you take a good look after a while he doesn't play whit it any more and bringing him to the toy store is also the same, the younger you are the more things he would want you could buy him entertaining toys from toys'r'us like furby (cuddly and very cute) or the new interactive electronic entertaining penguin or also to keep him really entertained you should try the TJ bear! it is very entertaining!

Turtles aren't good especially for this age. Turtles carry salmonella and other bacterias and a 2 year old doesn't understand how important it is to wash his hands after he handles them.
Two year olds are easy to please...it doesn't have to be anything extravagant or expensive. Just take him to the toy store and see what he shows the most interest in.

A bike or tricycle. The tricycles with the push bar are excellent for kids learning how to ride.
A trampoline to get out some of the energy that 2 year olds have.
