Well, I personally think you should stick with it. You might be glad you know it later in life. If you really don't care for Spanish, maybe you could try another language instead?

You don't really need Spanish. However, it's best if you take some kind of foreign language-- it just has to be something you're interested in.

Even though languages are divided into levels of difficulty, your own interest is going to determine how difficult it is for you. For instance, Spanish was harder for me than Korean because I found Spanish incredibly boring.

Speaking a foreign language broadens your mind and often teaches you to approach problems from various perspectives. Sometimes learning another language helps you to more fully understand and appreciate the complexity of your own language. For those reasons, you should take some sort of foreign language-- it's just up to you which one appeals to you the most.

If you want to go to college you need to have a foreign language. Spanish is one of the easiest foreign languages for native English speakers, so you should listen to your mother and just start applying yourself. She wants what is best for you, but you are using what your aunt said as an excuse to get out of it. Your aunt is not responsible for you and should not be giving you that kind of advice. She is undermining your mother by doing so. She would not appreciate it if someone did that to her, believe me. Even if you do not want to go to college now, you may want to in the future. It is a good thing to know a second language.

Your Mother is right, especially in today's world. There are so many Hispanics in this country, that no matter what you choose to do in life, your gonna need to speak and understand it. I would suggest, not relying on your teacher and buying some tutorial tapes, take it slowly, you will be speaking it better than your teacher in no time

It doesn't hurt to learn a second language...but you have to be interested in it to do well.
