I've seen diesels that smoke like crazy and some don't smoke at all. It seems like combustion temperature would be the number you're looking for because exhaust temperature would all depend on where you checked it. The load conditions and outside temperature would make big differences too..

The main pollutants apart from CO2 include PAHs (Poly Aromatic Hydrocarbons) which are carcinogenic. If you want the full list look up US EPA PAH 16. The quantities obviously relate to the engine, usage, efficiency, age, maintenance, etc. Try looking up the limits allowed int he MOT test.

CO2, H2O (water vapour causes molds, ill health, smog & damages buildings), various carcinogenic hydro-carbons. but the specific deisel problem pollutant is the particulates. UK cheif scientific advisor puts the number of deaths due to these as in the thousands,
