My ex owes a credit card company. She won't pay, Now they are calling me at work and hassling me. I have told them I will not pay. The lady at the collection agency is getting a kick out of hassling me at work and causing me problems with my job. My supervisor has told me to "solve the problem -- I don't want that woman calling anymore!" which is exactly what the collection agency wants -- they want to cause me problems at work so I will just pay up!

Help -- how can I make them stop calling me at work???? Need help fast, my job is on the line.

Write a letter to the collection agency stating that it is not allowed for you to receive calls of this matter at your job. Therefore, please do not call me at work.
If they continue to call your job after you send them the letter, you can legally take action against them. You can tell them this by phone but you MUST do everything in writing also.

You have some good answers here along with some helpful links, here is one more link that might help.

You will find that with regards to a collector calling your place of employment all you need to do is tell them verbally to stop calling you. If they fail to do that then you can go after them for harassment, as I recall the information on how to do that and who to contact is also contained in the link I provided.

Well good luck, I hope that the information I provided as well as the other posters will help you get past this annoyance.

Take care

Well the first thing is that a CA cannot call you at your place of employment. They all know this but they do it anyway. The next thing is that you have consumer protection laws on your side. Those laws allow you to demand the CA cease and desist from any further phone contact. You need to write a simple letter to them demanding they stop calling you at any number and send it certified mail. Once they receive a certified demand to cease and desist they must stop or they can be sued, and they know that. Don't let them intimidate or harrass you. You have legal rights, they just count on you not excercising them.

Tell them not to call and harass you at work anymore or you will report them. By law, they have to stop contacting you at work if you tell them that your boss does not want them contacting you there. Also, write them a letter or send them and email and keep proof that you have done so. If they continue, report them to the Attorney General's office for bad business practices. Also make sure you complain to her supervisor and even the head of the company if you have to.

Tell the collection agency to cease and assist. They will mail you a form and then you have to sign it and send it back to them. This will stop the phone calls and harassment and they will only be able to contact you thru the mail.

Tell her the next time she calls that you are taping the call and documenting how often she harrasses you at work and if you lose your job over her calls you will sue her to the fullest extent of the law. Say it calmly and reiterate that it is not your debt and you will not be paying it and if she calls you again you will report her to the police for stalking.

I'm sorry I can't help with your question, and since you do not except e-mail. Were going to go this route.

I just wanted to tell you--I LOVED your answer to the question about--how soon did you know your spouse was the one---Very insightful and how very true.

Wish I could have read something like that 28 years ago.
It needs to be handed out with every marriage license that's obtained. seriously.
Just needed to tell you that.
