The role of the Maid of Honour (called Matron of Honour if she is married) is similar to that of the best man, with the difference being that her duties are related to the bride.

Like the best man, the Maid of Honour must be the closest friend or relative, this time, to the bride. She may be her sister. The closer to the bride she is, the better, as the two will understand each other better.

The Maid of Honour’s main role is to help the bride in planning her wedding and being the bride’s “consultant”. She must assist the bride constantly throughout the entire planning process, especially during the stressful times close to the wedding day, when the tasks start to breed uncontrollably! She must work hand-in-hand with the Best man.

If the wedding is going to be a ‘big’ event, you might even consider having two Maids of Honour and share the tasks between them making sure neither of them feels left out.

Duties before the wedding:

Organise the Hen’s Party, often with the help of the bridesmaids.
Help the bride shop around for the wedding gown and the wedding party's attire.
Help in addressing the invitations
Take care of buying the present for the bride from the bridesmaids.
On the wedding day, help the bride and the bridesmaids get dressed.
Assist the bride’s mother with any last-minute details.
Help the bride in and out of the wedding car, taking care of the dress and veil.

Ceremony and reception duties:

Hold the bride's bouquet during the wedding ceremony.
Coordinate the bridesmaids.
Stand next to the bride and, if there is no ring bearer, hold the groom's wedding ring until the exchange of rings.
Adjust the bride's dress and veil when needed.
Collect any gifts presented by guests.
Help the bride during the photo shoots.
Help the bride change into her going-away outfit.

Duties after the wedding:

Take care of the wedding dress.
Deposit monetary gifts and look after the presents while the couple are on honeymoon.

As Matron of honor, you help the bride in preparing. The level of help depends on your relationship with the bride, and how much help she needs. You should also, together with the other bridesmaids, throw a bridal shower, as long as you are not a relative. If you are a relative, have one of the other bridesmaids throw the shower. You also help the bride get ready, and try to keep her calm before the ceremony. You hold her bouquet during the ceremony and adjust her train as necessary. At the reception, you give a toast and dance with the best man. After the wedding, you'll help with whatever follow-up may be needed, ie: drop wedding dress at cleaners, or deliver all leftover flowers to hospital ward, etc. The "help" is shared by the maid of honor, bridesmaids, best man, and family. There is nothing you "have to" do but be there to support the bride. And probably buy an ugly dress.

As to my knowledge a matron of honor is the same as a maid of honor only they get a different title because they are married or at a different stage in their lives. They get to plan the bridal shower, be the bride's right hand, help her get dressed, etc etc etc.

Here is a good website that lists the Maid or Matron of Honor's To Do list. I hope this helps.

planning the wedding shower, making sure that the bride has everything she needs, taking all of her stuff to the church or whereever the wedding is going to be, help decorating the reception/church, calming her down when she gets emotional, helping her with her makeup, dress, shoes, when the wedding ceremony starts making sure her dress traine is perfect as she gets ready to walk down the isle, when shes up at the alter fix her dress everytime she turns around or moves, hold her flowers when she needs to hold the grooms hands to exchange the rings, give her the grooms ring, at the reception all you really need to do is give the toast, and if she is doing the dollar dance where people give the bride and groom money to dance with them you and the best man are responsible for taking the money and giving it to them afterwards ( me and my husband made $300 just from this dance which lasted like 8 songs) just be their for her and smile and cry with her as a friend

You and the different bridesmaids are to blame for finding out to purchase the bathe. you are able to bypass to the dollar Tree to get alot of the decorations. All you rather might desire to purchase is a few decorations, a cake, some prize for the video games and a few foodstuff. you have gotten a meat and cheese tray with chips and dip, a cake and something for each guy or woman to drink. you are able to print video games off the internet. you are able to have an incredible bridal bathe for around $50-$70 finding on what number people you have.

your job, as MOH is to to what the bride wants you to. Sometimes it's as simple as giving your opinion. Other brides practically want you to run the whole show!

For a basic overview, I would check out The knot. They seem to have everything.

Good luck!
