The moment you are scalded you must pour plenty of ice cold water over the area till you get some relief.Thereafter carefully inspect whether there are any blisters appearing. In case, yes apply a generous dose of "Burnol ointment" over the entire area and spread it over evenly in a layer. You have nothing more to do now. When blisters rupture, use " Silverex ointment",which contains silver and use it in liberal doses. But remember that while applying ointment all your hands etc should be perfectly clean,so as to avoid any contamination or infection getting in.Further it is of utmost importance that the blister wounds be covered with sterile material and no flies etc be allowed to come in contact .Antibiotic cover is also essential as prescribed by the physician,to allow the wounds to heal quickly.Thats all from a layman.

* Cool the burn. Hold the burned area under cold running water for at least 5 minutes, or until the pain subsides. If this is impractical, immerse the burn in cold water or cool it with cold compresses. Cooling the burn reduces swelling by conducting heat away from the skin. Don't put ice on the burn.
* Cover the burn with a sterile gauze bandage. Don't use fluffy cotton, which may irritate the skin. Wrap the gauze loosely to avoid putting pressure on burned skin. Bandaging keeps air off the burned skin, reduces pain and protects blistered skin.
* Take an over-the-counter pain reliever. These include aspirin, ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin, others), naproxen (Aleve) or acetaminophen (Tylenol, others). Never give aspirin to children or teenagers.

Run cold water on the area and then just leave it alone. If it blisters apply a bandaid to protect it. There is nothing you really need to do for a scald wound.
