I'd like to buy some furniture in China & have it shipped to me in the US? Are there any websites where I can order furniture direct from China? Or would it be better to just go there & arrange shipping myself? Also is is expensive to have furniure shipped to the US? I live in NY.

shipping cost for furniture would be very expensive. Shipping by air is out of the question, shipping by boat is the only option, and cost is based on volume not weight. also you have to pay custom and duty fees once your shipment arrives. then you also have to pay for shipping from the port of entry to your home. ports are either new york or boston. So you do the figures.

I suppose you are interested in traditional chinese furniture, not the stuff you can already get in furniture stores in the USA. There are many excellent manufacturers selling "oriental" or "chinese"-inspired furniture styles. Check Alibaba, a global e-commerce leader and the largest e-commerce company in China for a comprehensive list of those companies. But in my opinion, the best would be to spend a few weeks in China and shop around in markets and bazaars for uniques pieces. Some market sellers come from the country side and you may be able to find unique pieces for a fantastic price. Furniture and antique shopping would make a great trip with an interesting purpose, plus traveling in China can be relatively cheap compared to many other destinations. Shipping to the USA could be expensive. Shipping companies also have listings on Alibaba.

Most of the sellers provide the shipping service, at a cost, of course. Bargain with the the prices of your furniture first, then ask them how much the freight costs. For on-line, can't help you, never tried before. In any case, I wouldn't recommend that as I heard from many the quality cannot be guaranteed if you haven't seen the goods yourself.

shipping from china to US is mega bucks! believe it or not it is probably cheaper to pay the airfare to travel there, and bring the furniture back on the plane.

Visit a few shops, select what you need, get the selections packed in front of you and sealed, and then get it shipped to your place!
