nIn most developed & developing countries, the main source of is income is agriculture ( farming, fishing, raring ) therefore their source of food are produced locally, no imports & no taxes.
The government supports the locally produced items therefore manufacturers are given subsidies or loans for venturing this field which will naturally reduce the cost of food.

Food is a smaller percentage of a persons earnings in the developed world not necessarily cheap. Tractors and other pieces of farming machinery let one person do the work over 20 people lowering the cost of production which lowers to cost to the consumer. So if you have a wage earner making more money and farmers much more efficient food cost goes down.

I'm guessing because the cost of living is so low. Plus let's say with regards to vegetables they don't pay millions for pesticides to be used as well has massive warehouses and factories to sort and grade the veg. It's a lot more simplistic for the developed world.

It's only cheap if you are converting it to a price in £'s. The percentage of money spent on food is still really high in comparison to salary earned. Even basics such as maize meal and bread are expensive for the people living in the countries and prices fluctuate on a daily basis due to unstable economies.

It depends on what you consider food. The government gives HUGE subsidies to farmers who raise animals for food, but nothing to a responsible organic farmer who raises vegetables. Therefor, it costs more to buy a pint of raspberries than to buy a pound of beef. Innocent animals are slaughtered, and the government foots the bill. People, like myself, who chose to eat healthier foods, rather than decaying dead animal flesh have to food the bill on their own. In my world, food is not cheap. People who want a quick fix, and are too lazy to prepare their own food are rewarded with low priced, unhealthy food options. People who want good, organic, fresh, quality ingredients get hosed

Supply and demand. We have a lot of it. For the most part, the developed world has stable governments and fewer wars.
