Either move or find a decent home! DO NOT take the dog to a shelter. Especially if it is middle aged (over 4)!

If you cannot find a good home for the dog on your own your local animal shelter will take the dog. Most open door shelters will take any animal at no charge or for a small donation. If it is a "no kill" shelter they are choosier about what animals they will take and there is often a waiting list. If your dog is healthy and has a good temperament it will be offered for adoption. If your dog is a purebred you can do a search for a rescue specific to that breed on the Net. For example, if your dog is a Siberian Husky do a search for "siberian husky rescue."
Frankly, when I welcome a pet into my home I make a commitment to that pet to do my absolute best to keep it for its lifespan. I personally, would move and find another place to live rather than sacrificing a pet. but I realize sometimes things happen that we don't expect and cannot control.

Do not take to a shelter. Do not give away to a free home. There are people out there that say they are looking for a pet but then sell your animal to a research center and your animal will have a horrible life,
Is this the way you want your loving pet to go?
Find someplace else to live or find someone you know to take your animal that you know will love it. If you must advertise sell your pet to make it not profitable for someone to resell to a research center.
How hard for your pet to have to lose a loving home and go someplace new. Animals are not throw away items. When you take in a animal you should be prepared to love and keep safe for life of the pet.
I hope your pet finds a loving home.

Asked your mom or your dad or your parent or your parents to do what the best for your dog. Tell them you very sad, and wanted your dog to have a good place to go. I am so sorry you have to give up your dog.

you could give him/her to a friend or family member. If no one wants him/her, then you could always make a post online or in the local newspaper about a dog for sale. Though if he is older and not a puppy, most people might not want him, so you could make the post that he is free and needs a good home. If no one answers your posts then you could locate a local animal shelter and they would be glad to take him/her and find him/her a new home.
