Gaining weight is a side effect of bc. I have been on the pill since I was 17 and am now 28. I was at the right weight for my height when I started and stayed that weight for 5 years after and started an office job. I have gained weight since then and am now in Weight Watchers and exercising at the gym. I have lost 18 pounds since January. I have lost weight before, but unsuccessfull in keeping it off as my habits really didn't change that much. When you sit on your butt all day, you really have to make an effort to get up and move around, go for a walk, or exercise.
So yes, you can lose weight while being on the pill.
Good Luck!

I was on the Depo shot for three years and I gained about 30 lbs. Doesn't sound like much, but on a relatively small frame, it was a lot. I finally wizened up and switched birth control. Now I'm on the patch and I lost all of the weight that I had gained and am now back to the weight I was in high school. Birth control doesn't make it impossible to lose weight, it just makes it more difficult because of the hormones. First, find a birth control that doesn't make you balloon then go from there.

Yes, you can lose weight on birth control hormones. They may cause a little weight gain, but not badly enough that you can't overcome all of it with a steady diet and exercise. I gained about 20 pounds on Depo, which I am successfully taking off by being diligent about my diet.

I take Ortho Tri Cyclin Lo....have been taking it for almost 4 years. Last sept I decided I wanted to loose weight. So far I've lost 30 lbs since then. Yes you can loose weight while on birth control. You have to workout....do cardio or aerobics 4-6 days a week for at least 45 minutes. Cut down on you calorie in take...stop drinking calories....drink plenty of water.

I have successfully lost 30lbs while taking ortho tri cyclen. The easiest way for me was to start at my local weight watchers group because you have to keep a food journal and weigh in weekly. This may sound like a pain but if you are having problems this really works. If you cant afford the fees try counting your calories on your own and keeping the journal that way you see the mistakes you are making and can rectify them. Check the internet for the amount of calories needed for your age and weight so as not to cut to many calories. This may send your body into starvation mode and prevent you from losing weight as well.

Birth control only causes about 5% of people to actually gain weight, and thats only because your appetite changes.
You can definitely lose weight, regardless of taking b/c.

I've lost 5 kilos in my first week. It's my 10th day and I have included salad with some protein (eg. egg/ lean chicken) as you suggested. After 4 years of trying, the fat is finally coming off. It truly feels like magic!
