It could be because you are out of shape, but if you did not disclose your history of asthma on your medical questionaire you may be on your way out depending on what happens to you in boot camp. If you disclosed the information you should be ok, if not they can discharge you for fraudulent enlistment. Asthma is a big deal in the military because most places that you are stationed have really crappy weather that tend to bring out asthma even if where you lived before you joined the military you didn't have a problem with it. When I was in boot camp we had people dropping all over the place from asthma and they tried to hide it from the Navy. You can't hide stuff like that when you are running miles on end in 100 degree weather and 100% humidity. What ever branch you joined probably doesn't hold their boot camp in a very nice weather place either. Good luck and hope you'te just not used to the kind of exercise you are doing.

My brother is an asthmatic and after ten years his asthma has shown no sign of improving. He has been to several doctors but they didn't help much.

If you want a proven, all-natural way to cure your asthma, without having to pay for useless medications with harmful side-effects, then this is the most important page you'll ever read.

Ohhh. I was there. It wasn't until I was in basic that I realized i had sports induced Asthma. There wasn't much they could do for me and it was probably because I smoked before. When I got out of basic i started smoking again and the asthma went away and I could run alot. They know what they're doing. I think just running through the pain got rid of my asthma and running in the cold made me numb to cold.

I saw a fellow basic trainee die from an asthma attack. I remember running a mile in combat boots under six minutes. I did not get 100% score for the mile. Today I think they run in running shoes so it should be easier.

It won't be a problem just let them know you have had asthma in the past and they will take care of you. Once you get into military shape you should do much better.

My husband outgrew his asthma also. He ended up doing fine in basic - could be you're a little out of shape.

Good luck!

You do what you can, and then you do a little more.
If you can't, tell the DI.
