I probably won't be here in 20 years, so I can only tell you about what it's like where I live. My father passed away and I moved back into the family home. This city is 98% Mexican now, not all illegal but alot. Here are some of the things going on on my street alone. The people next door are harboring illegals in the house behind theirs. To the left of me across the street lives a 2 striker who has threatened my family. Across the street to the right of me is an illegal that has been deported several times, and keeps coming back. He thinks its funny. 2 weeks ago, there was a drive by shooting on the corner. I have to drive at least 10 miles to find a grocery store that carries something other than chiles.
I can't even take my grandchildren to the local park because of the gangs that hang out there. It's pathetic. These people have survived in Mexico by stealing and cheating. This is what they know, this is what my America has become. As far as I am concerned, my nation has already been destroyed.

2 Things:
1) To the people who say we must have immigrants to fuel economic growth:
Look, money ain't everything. I'd rather have a lower standard of living than live in a gang-infested neighborhood. I'd rather live at 1940 America standards than have to see packs of angry thirdworlder men wandering the streets. I'm sick of seeing this.
There won't be any economic collapse because there's less people. Wages would actually go up because of that.
There would be less pollution, and less overcrowding. 300 million Americans and counting is a lot of people.
2) To answer this question: If something isn't done the end result will absolutely be ethnic/religious/political warfare. No question about it. Flood a geo-graphic region with competing ethnic groups, religious and political groups and you'll have war on your hands. That's the recipe for war by the way. That's the whole point of having a nation. A nation contains similar people who are alike racially, ethnically, politically and religiously. They're usually on the same page thus a better chance for peace and prosperity.

I think illegal immigration is helping the nation. In 20 years the US will be part of the North American Union and will be 95% Latino like it should be.

This country is in deep trouble. The illegals in New Orleans are asking 20.00=25.00 an hour for construction work, that is more money than the licensed contractors get. They steal the construction supplies and haul it back to Mexico. These people are a drain on our economy. They are sneaky, they steal, and they don't pay taxes. The mayor of New Orleans has opened his arms to them. They will live 15-20 families in one house. They try to intimidate the other men, because they move in packs like wild dogs.

Yes, illegal aliens are causing many problems. Increases in crime, flooding hospitals looking for free care, overburdening schools, trashing the environment, etc. Driving down wages for labor jobs, displacing legal citizens for jobs.
Immigration needs to be controlled and orderly. The USA can afford to pick its immigrants now. Grant VISAs to people with at least a high school education and want to learn English. If illegal immigration can be stopped from Mexico, more immigrants from other parts of the world can come to the US legally and orderly.

Yes. The southwest will either be a third world country, or not. If the problem continues or if amnesty is granted, there will be a war. The above answerer's nickname should tell you that a war is coming -- the Mexicans are on a mission to reconquest the southwest, this will not happen peacefully.

It hasn't in the last 100 years so whats another 20 going to do?
The whole uproar about this started with protecting our boarders after 9/11. Problem is it's misguided. You won't ever see a Mexican Highjacking a plane to crash into a building followed by a wired up Canadian. America needs illegal aliens, thats why it's always been a low priority till now.
Thats how all those millions of people got here in the first place.

Hopefully it won't take 20 years to get this mess sorted out. I feel really bad for those people who are immigrating legally - they are getting lumped in with the riff-raff. And, all of the illegal aliens and their actions are a slap in the face to the legals, too.
We need to see some enforcement of our laws...otherwise, I hate to even ponder where we'll be...

The current unemployment rate is at 4.6%. 5% unemployment is considered "full employment." Now how is illegal immigration hurting us again? Illegal immigrants often pay higher tax rates and at lower wage rates for fear of contact with U.S. authorities. Now how is illegal immigration hurting us again? We like relatively low food prices, and housing prices, and home help cost, and illegal immigrants do much of this work. Now how is illegal immigration hurting us again?
Remember, but for Native Americans, we are all immigrants, and before you tell me that your great-grandparents came here legally, I will tell you that is because there were no immigration laws, other than those which kept out Chinese, Mexican, and other "non-desirables." Now how is illegal immigration hurting us again?

As much as some people would like you to believe, illegal immigration is not going to destroy our country. Mexicans are not going to destroy our country. That is what this is all about, dont kid yourself.
