XP was the last revision for NT. XP says NT5.1 when you type ver in a command prompt. Vista is a whole new library of code offering Digital Rights Management so everyone will purchase their own copies of software or media entertainment.

The difference between the two is mostly cosmetic with Vista having the upgrade on looks and format. However, the security is still in question due to the 'bugs' in vista. It is expected for all newly released programs of this nature to have some difficulties in the beginning, most users have come to accept that. Personally I would stick with the XP until a later date when Vista is reported to be more stable.
Another reported difference is due to the graphics and such on Vista, it also takes a lot more memory to run it than XP. While vista requires a minimum of 1GB of memory, XP can run on a minimum of 256MG.
Hope this helps.

The biggest difference I would say is looks and feel and the way users navigate on files.
But I think i'm not ready to make the change as yet, as I read many negative comments on Vista.

It is suppose to have more features than XP, and it proports to be higher in security. From what I see about it on Yahoo answers, it has a lot of bugs which has to be panned out. This is why, I would not get it soon.
