I live in South Africa and go to Mozambique and Botswana every year, all my family takes (inc. 12 yr old daughter) is homeopathic drops from our chemist, or health shop. We have been bitten like crazy and never contracted anything. Plus there are no weird side effects, hallucinations or loss of appetite, which would be a seriously bad thing!

It depends upon the area and drug sensitivity there. Chloroquine is standard, unless there is chloroquine resistance. If so, mefloquine or sulfadiazine- pyremethamine may be given.
