I worked for a medical school for many years, so I can answer this one. It is NOT easy getting into med school, and staying in is even harder. A lot of people bomb out after their first year or two. So, if you are serious about becoming an MD, here's what you'll need to do:

1. Stop saying you aren't bright. That's defeatist thinking-you'll never get anywhere if you are that down on yourself.

2. Work very hard in school, so that you get the highest grades possible. This means high school and college.

3. Get a degree in one of the sciences-biology, chemistry, etc.

4. Do tons of volunteer work, starting right now. That is something that med schools look at very closely-how much community service type work you do on a voluntary basis. Work in a soup kitchen, be a big brother/sister, deliver food for meals on wheels--as much as you can do, so you can list a lot on your resume. And don't fake it--they DO check to see if it's true.

5. Once you're accepted at med school, you will have to work very hard to keep up. Read every single day. Once you get in the habit, you'll be amazed how much you're able to remember.

Best of luck to you!

If you love helping people, then just work at the information booth at the mall.

Being a doctor is more than all these people are saying with school, biology, etc- malpractice insurance will just about kill the drive of any practicing doctor. Talk to doctors in practice before you start.

What you speak of is a family doctor. And yes it is hard. When you enter Medical school you must train in everything (surgery, pediatrics, cardiology, etc.) But thats if you can even get into medical school. The key to becoming a doctor is hard work- and the ability to remember masses of information without a lot of time to study. But I assure you if you work hard at it your dream will be fulfilled. Email me if you have anymore questions about this.
Good luck

Yes, it takes a lot of study, understanding and desire to get through college and medical school. All "normal doctors" have to get through the same amount of medical school. Specialists need more time to study their specialty.
