There is a broad range in quality of possible homemade food just as there is a broad range in quality of kibble. Purina is actually a rather inexpensive, poor quality kibble. Feeding your dog all homemade food will probably cause it to have less regular bowel habits, which can be a real pain for some folks as well as uncomfortable for the dog. A homemade diet will most likely cost more than the kibble you are feeding. I highly recommend switching to a better quality food. The most common food allergy that dogs have is to grains, most particularly to corn, which is the base of the majority of cheap dog foods. Corn is the most highly genetically modified food that exists, and I shudder to think of the quality of the corn going into the cheaper brands of food. I feed Taste of the Wild kibble and sometime the Blue products from PetSmart. This is supplemented with a little top shelf grain free canned or homemade food mixed in for a "treat factor". If you feel you want a better kibble but can't afford the high end grain free stuff, Nutromax is one of the less expensive decent quality foods. My dogs liked the lamb rice and for one that couldn't take the richness of the lamb I got her the chicken rice. I usually try to avoid chicken in the dogfood if possible because of all the junk chickens are fed - conventional chickens have a really gross backstory - and the dogs are not getting the breasts and thighs... I remember reading pet food labels twenty five years ago and one of the ingredients pretty close to the top of the list was "poultry digest". Now what would that be...? I Good luck!

First, as far as I know, the recall was on canned food, not dry, so you shouldn't need to get rid of the bag that you have now.
Second, I hate to say this, but perhaps you shouldn't have the dogs if you are not able to provide for their basic needs.
Check with your local humane society - some of them have pet food pantries and will provide free food.

Actually, I've worked for a federal agency that helps people with disabilities, so your negative attitude towards "the laws of this country" are pretty false. If you want to help yourself and your dogs, stop paying monthly internet fees and get them some food. Didn't you apply for Medicaid/Medicare to help pay for those prostheses? You can't sue Menu Foods if your dogs didn't eat the foods, either. If you're going to sue anybody, sue the place where you originally had your injury, for worker's comp.
Depending on what state you live in, there are federal aid programs and probably several grants to help you temporarily with daily expenses, although some organizations are going to tell you that 3 dogs are a luxury for you unless they are guide/medical assistance dogs.

No need to worry, keep feeding the dogs what you have, there has been no recall on dry dogfood... Even if you had the cans and needed to get more food, you could have returned them to the store for a refund. No fear, the dogs will be fine!

some churches will help out with the dog food I'm sure it wouldn't cost that much...could any family members help you out? Feed them rice and stuff that is pretty cheap and you can eat it too.....keep in mind though that the dry dog food was not recalled...only the cuts and gravy type...pouches and cans

Dry dog food was not recalled. Only the 'wet' type. There have been many web sites that list all of the recalled brands. Try www.otscweb.tamu.edu/dogfood.htm

There were no dry dog foods recalled, so you are safe to feed them their regular dry food. Perhaps you should have thought about being able to afford your dogs, before you got them.

Just a thought.........If you can't afford a bag of dog food, then you certainly cant afford vet care, vaccinations etc. Get rid of the dogs. Sad but true. I hope nobody falls for this pathetic scam.

Try calling the 800 number for the dog food co that recalled their product and demand a coupon/compensation for money already spent on dog food, that you can't afford to replace............
