I don't go to the theaters much because people in general are rude obnoxious jerks anymore. No respect for others.

I am a very patient person; I don't need to see most new release movies as soon as they open. However, I do buy the DVD the day it is released. I do go to the theater for IMAX films. I don't think it has anything to do with other people; there are times when you can practically have the screen to yourself. For me, it's a matter of economy and convenience. I can buy a new release DVD for less than the price of two theater tickets and there is no limit to the number of people who can watch the DVD. Pre-viewed DVD’s cost less than a box of candy. Parking is never an issue. Weather is never an issue. I can wear or not wear whatever I want. I can take snack or bathroom breaks and not miss anything and there is never a line for either. If I doze, I can always pick up where I left off later. Another favorite part is that my feet never stick to the floor, at least not since my kids have grown and moved out.
My affinity for DVD’s is not limited to movies I also buy episodic television on DVD. I no longer pay for cable and rarely have to watch commercials. Add control to the reasons for my preference of DVD’s over movie theaters.

I go to the movies maybe three or four times a year, if that. You're right--people really are rude and obnoxious jerks, especially on the weekends. The theater is cram packed full with mainly teenagers/kids who have no desire to see the movie--they're just out screwing around and making it a very UNenjoyable experience for the people who are there who actually want to see that specific movie.

We have a Blockbuster Total Access membership now (it's like Netflix, only better) and we love it. Plus it's a fraction of the cost of going to the theater. The last movie we saw was about 4 or 5 months ago and it cost us **$30** for tickets and popcorn. Ugh!

When movie tickets hit 9 dollars, I stopped going. Now I just go to blockbuster and get the 4 for 20 DVDs and if there is a really huge hit like Borat, or something like that, then I will rent it to see what everyone else saw. The last movie I watched in a movie theater was this one movie parody that tried so hard to be like scary movie but was a real disappointment. I felt so violated for having watched that movie at 9 bucks a pop for four people. Such a waste. So now if there is 2 of us, I do 4 for 20, if there is 4 of us, i do that times 2. We get to watch 8 movies for what it would have cost us to go to the movies. AWESOME!!! I have the sound and the screen at home, so I don't really need the movie theaters.

I completely agree with you. Not only is renting dvds cheaper it is also more relaxing at home and you can even buy microwaveable popcorn at WalMart to enjoy with the movie.( I usually rent DVDs at my local library because it is way cheaper than blockbuster) I don't go the the movie theaters that often either people are rude when they eat their popcorn and slurping sodas in the theater and it just ruins the whole movie experience.

I rarely do either, I just don't really care for movies much. I don't own a television for fifteen years, have seen about five or six movies in that time, and watched about twice that on DVD. I really rather read a book, if they never made another movie I wouldn't care (if I'd even notice... okay I guess other people would care so much I would notice the huge protest that'd rise up... but personally I could care less).

I do. I can't stand listening to people take cell phone calls during a movie. And to be honest, my interest in the person sitting behind me's commentary of the film is non-existent - this is probably my biggest peeve of all.

The last time I was in the theater and the woman behind me started talking about how good looking the actor was, or how predictable a scene was, I actually turned around in my seat and said "I'd be thrilled to discuss this with you when the movie's OVER." Rude? Maybe, but she shut up. What's wrong with people?

I think more and more people are waiting for the DVD. This is probably the reason that it costs so much to go to the movies. Secondly Hollywood makes more and more cookie cutter movies so why not stay home and pick your own or not invest that much into something that is stupid.

And you are right. It would seem that reasonable manners and behavior have gone out of the window these days. Particularly kids. But they act like they act as they seem to feel as if there are no reprecussions for bad manners. But it isnt just kids.

I haven't been to a theater in 10 years. Instead, I've used what would have been ticket money to gather a large library of DVD's I can watch anytime, and as much as I want.
It was the prices (especially at the snack bar) that stopped me from going.

I have not gone to the theaters since 1989. I watch DVDs at home.
