Gypsy Queen, please, the Koran also says at least a half dozen times that Allah will provide for those who die in that struggle - - how do you die from the inner struggle against temptation? Clearly jihad means a struggle in which one risks his life, otherwise the Koran wouldn't address those who die in the process.

And how ignorant are these people? Yes, it's obviously ignorant to blow things up but there is a whole religion that claims as holy a book that says kill other people, and the leaders of that religion have to do more than simply BE non-violent in their own lives and claim that anyone who interprets the book literally and who follows Muhammad's own example is an idiot - Muhammad was violent, the Koran, literally interpreted, is violent - isn't there an obligation, if you're going to hold up a book that says "kill the unbelievers wherever ye may find them" and "take not the Jews as friends" and "cut their heads and fingertips off" as divine revelation to the last prophet to acknowledge the violent aspects and to come out and say that it must be reinterpreted to be suitable for modern society?

That's not the same thing as denying that it says what it says.

Extremists are extremists, if it wasn't Islam they would find some other reason to blow up buildings.

They are getting that idea from being indoctrinated, or brainwashed at a very early age, by the hate they are taught in what they call madrases, especially in northern Pakistan, a country not to be trusted, in my humble view. Then when they are older, they go to the mosques and listen to more hate filled rantings. Through this whole process, these young men are not taught to read and write, therefore, they accept anything the imams tell them. Keeping them uneducated is the key. Why else do you think they try to keep the kids from attending schools ? They don't want them to be able to read the Koran for themselves, because, if they did read it, these ones who are being trained to blow themselves up , would find out before that just how peaceful the religion of Islam really is. When you keep the masses ignorant and illiterate, they believe what the evil leaders tell them. These so-called insurgents are flowing into Iraq from neighboring " oil producing countries to spur on sectarian violence and disrupt the flow of oil from Iraq. They don't want Iraqi oil flowingfreely into the open market, because that would give Iraq a lot of income, plus, these other oil producing countries like Iran, Syria, Saudi Arabia would have to settle for a smaller piece of the pie. In short, all these other Islamic states do not want a democratic Iraq on their borders becoming rich and more advanced , and educated. These "terrorists" spread the hate, supposedly against the west, but if that were their true motive, why are Muslims killing Muslims in Afghanistan and Iraq ? The true religion of Islam is being hijacked by evil people for their own gain. According to the Koran, all this murdering they are committing in the name of Allah is strictly forbidden. So, keep them unable to read that for themselves !

Not sure what you are trying to get at here. The Qur'an does speak about Holy War (jihad does not only refer to actual war in a physical sense, but also the inner struggle people have) and what should be done to infidels. There are peaceful, beautiful elements in the Qur'an, however there are also rather violent ones. Islam was initially spread by the sword.

no they have taken the word Jihad too literally
it means a spiritual struggle/fight
and there are nutters in most religions who interpret things for their own benefit
