Florida, like TX, has absurdly high real estate taxes since neither state has an income tax. TX sales taxes are at or near 8.5% already and the RE taxes there are just insane.

It many SOUND like a good idea to not have an income tax but the reality is that the money has to come from somewhere. If you're OK with ridiculously high real estate and sales taxes, carry on.

If you'd like a more sane system (such as we have in MO where my total tax bite including income AND property taxes was about 75% of what TX charged in real estate taxes alone) talk to your lawmaker about tossing the current tax structure in favor of a reasonable income tax.

how high is high?? i moved from ohio 4 years ago. ohio has state income taxes, 2% flat city income taxes, 6 to 7% sales taxes and my property taxes were about 1.25% of the value of my house. in FL, my property taxes are less than 1%.
