I have a friend who works for Papa Johns. He gave me one of those car tops and I have never had a problem parking in the fire zone. I try to keep my shopping less than two hours. I am in a wheelchair and it takes me awhile to get out of my van. If no one says anything about it then I don't think there is anything wrong. I do have a handicap license plate. Am I being rude?

Rude - yes. Illegal - definetly.

Even with a handicapped plate you could wind up getting a ticket or worse - your van being towed.

Just hope that there is never a fire in the shopping center. Most Fire departments will go "right through" an illegally parked vehicle if they have to.

yes it's rude and illegal. you think that the handicapped spot is too far? that comment just sounds flat out lazy to me. i know plenty of people in wheel chairs who can get from point A to point B with no problem. just because you are in a wheelchair does not mean you are more special than anyone else that is in a wheelchair and can park right in front of a store like that (especially for 2 hours or more?? i could understand if you were picking someone up but otherwise that is way too long and very inconsiderate to block the entrance way like that) while everyone else parks in the handicapped spot. it is only fair that you park in the correct place...the handicap parking spot. they are the closest spots to the store anyway. that is put there just for you, and no one else that is not handicapped, so i would be grateful for that and use it.

It is more than rude it is illegal. In the event of a fire you would be blocking fire trucks from getting close to the fire.I don't care if you are handicapped it is still illegal.Your handicap license is not a license to break the law.Do you think it is just rude for fit people to park in the handicap parking if they are only going to run on a quick erand.By the way it will not take you any longer to get out of your vehical if it is parked legally.

Is it rude to break the law? Yes. Is it rude to create for yourself an unfair advantage? Yes. Is it rude to use a wheelchair as an excuse to justify your actions? Yes. Is it rude to jeopardize the lives of shoppers by blocking fire access while you get a few yards closer? Yes.

Heck, is it rude to make people think that Papa Johns is using wheelchair people to deliver pizzas and parking illegally? yes. Is it rude to take advantage of a friend like this? Yes.

I work with a couple hundred people in wheelchairs in all sorts of situations, and I think your behavior is pretty hard to excuse. I have people who control their chairs with tiny sips and puffs and it takes them FOREVER to get into and out of the vans- but they would NEVER consider doing something like this to gain a few yards.

Shame on you putting your convenience over the lives of others. Wouldn't YOU think it was rude for some guy who was not handicapped in any way to borrow a buddy's permit and park in the 'good spaces' during Christmas rush? What is the difference?

Actually, i would not chastise you for being rude, my major concern is, how would you feel if at some time when you are in the store, a fire broke out and because YOUR car is parked incorrectly, the fire truck was unable to get to the store. REMEMBER YOU are in a wheelchair and most likely will be the person who is likely to be most affected by this situation.

Think about that next time you decide to park in the fire zone.

If an emergency should occur, you are blocking access that the fire department, police and EMS would need. We park as close as we can to the place of emergency.

If I came across that, I would use the ambulance (all 7 tons of it) to push your vehicle out of the way. By parking in the fire zone, you are getting in the way of people like me (I'm an EMT) from doing their jobs and endangering people's lives.

It may be an inconvenience to you but you need to park in the handicapped parking. Stay out of the fire zone. It's there for a reason. That reason is not for the convenience of the general public. It's for emergencies.

Rude, yes somewhat, but consider this: when a store catches on fire and you burn because the firetrucks can't reach the blaze, or you get out with your life only to find that there are several fire hoses running through your broken windows, don't be shocked.

In other words rude or not, it's illegal.

Yes. it is rude . Why can't you be like the other handicaps and park in the handicap spots. You can take your time and wheel yourself to the entrance no one is rushing you. Besides there is no time limit in those spots anyway.

I don't think it's rude, but I do think parking your car at such a spot causes a lot of trouble AND inconveniences for the fire engine in case a fire breaks out. Think of the possible conseqnences, please.

Not only rude but illegal. I somehow doubt you park there for two hours. In this city, you'd be towed away at your own expense.
