Is it like how cows are branded? Can it be removed or is it permanently intact? Is a surgery performed?

I just got my dogs microchipped. The vet uses a medium size needle and puts the chip into their backs. It only hurts for a few seconds. I had it done just in case my dogs got out of the yard or something, it's just an easier way to find them. I'm not sure that you can remove it.

LOL! No they're not branded.

When they microchip a dog or a cat, and special gun is used to painlessly slip a microchip under the pets skin. Later, if it gets lost or seperated from it's family, the same device can be glided over their body and can pick up the chip's information and give the vet/ pound the owner's address.

I wouldn't call it surgery. I'd call it.. a peircing. :P And they can be removed. It's just under the skin. No branding involved, hehe.

The chip is packaged in a syringe and when you set the chip in the dog you give it just like a shot. It goes up between the shoulder blades of the dog. The do not do anything special just do it like a shot and then scan it to make sure they have the right number and info and it is in place.
It could be removed but they are the size of a grain of rice so it would be hard to find.

The chip is injected under the dog's skin. It isn't a surgical procedure, and it isn't anything like branding. It doesn't hurt the dog any more than a routine shot. It can be removed.

The chip is inserted like giving an injection. It is placed on the back of the neck and is completed harmless to the dog. No surgery is required.
