my mum had a cervical spinal cord surgery on 7th, she has a wound on her near front neck, it's been almost 2 weeks but she still HAVEN'T removed the dressing, i wasn't there when my dad charged her out of hospital, i asked him did the nurse tell him how to take care of the dressing, he recalled nothing about it, and he said we shouldn't touch it anyway, because he thinks it should be removed by doctor/nurse on the follow up day (which was last friday, but the doctor had an emergency and didn't show up and the date has been postponed to tomorrow) so... is there any dressing should be removed by professional or all kind of dressing should be changing everyday, are we making a horrible mistake?

Depends on what the dressing is. Some can be left on for a max of 7 - 10 days. They are known as hydrocolloids, resemble a second skin and stop scarring. However, if its a gauze dressing, i would take it off for a look. Just to be sure that the wound was healing well underneath. You will be seeing someone tomorrow anyway, so have a look and then just cover it with a normal plaster. Do not pick at any stitches etc, they should be removed by a professional.

I don't think that you should touch it. However, if the area area around the bange appears hot, swollen, or a funny color, contact your doctor immediately. To alleviate any concerns, call the hospital and ask them. However, it would be safe to wiat until the doctor can redress the bandages, don't do it yourself.
