I am pregnant currently and am wanting to breastfeed. I have had my nipples pierced for the last 4 years. I have heard that you can breastfeed if you've had your nipples pierced, but I wanted to know if anyone has ever successfully breastfed and kept their piercings in? I want to remove the rings while I actually feed, but then return them afterwards. In theory, this can be done with no harm to the baby. But does anyone have any personal experience on keeping pierced nipples through breastfeeding ??? Thanks.

i have mine done and im 20 weeks pregnant, i asked my midwife the Q you are asking weeks ago and she said that yes in theory i could but breastfeeding can put enormous pressure on the nipple and even without piercings it can end up cracked and sore. she said this would be even more uncomfortable with a piercing as the piercing may get infected. also hormones mean that your skin and healing processes may change so that may cause a problem for the piercing also.

Why would you want to cause yourself any more pain than what engorgement does? Your nipples are going to be sore enough with out ornaments. And I can just see the baby pulling on the now.
