I would like to warn you that that weekend is Holy Week, PR is pretty much catholic... so be prepared to find some places closed on Good Friday and Easter Sunday.
Even when you are not looking for touristy things... I hope you plan to visit Old San Juan and El Yunque (those are a most if you haven't been to PR). Eat at El Jibarito at Sol Street in Old San Juan, very casual and local.
In your way to El Yunque you will find many kiosks on the sides of the road. Stop and it the great alcapurrias, bacalaitos and piononos (greasy food, but delicious).
Also go to Pinones, next to the airport...same small kiosks next to the road (these are really good), it can't get cheaper than that.
For a beach that is not touristy I would go to Boqueron (Playa Sucia next to the lighthouse), Rincon, Aguadilla (Crashboat). Porta del Sol (west area) is not as tourist oriented as San Juan area, but you will find few traps in there. Just keep your eyes open, and wherever you see locals go to, that means it's good and cheap!
Locals go to ice skate in Aguadilla, kayaking in Fajardo bioluminiscent bay, and love Flamenco beach in Culebra island.
Visit www.gotopuertorico.com for touristy info just in case something might interest you. Also access www.endi.com for the local newspaper.
Have fun!

I would recommend going to Utuado. It is full of beautiful mountains that mesmerize you. The town (plaza) has some cute shops and cheap food. It is very rare to see any tourists from there. I am from Ohio and live in Utuado and people are always amazed to see a "gringa" in Utuado. Utuado also has a beautiful lake (Lago Dos Bocas) where you can take a boat ride across the lake. Also the "Cavernas de Camuy" aren't too far away.
