They are a myth, a legend that was written millinea ago. To believe they were real is akin to a literal fundamentalist theology and denies the reality that the Christian bible is a spiritual book that was complied in AD 380 at a grand council of monks. The bible is realy a collection of stories, legends, spiritual ideas and is not a book of actual history. In reality the Adam and Eve story was written to offer an explanation of human kinds origins in an age when superstition and ignorance of science ruled. Bye the way I am a very religous person.

Honestly, I believe in both. I believe in cavemen, because Science can prove that. But I believe that Adam and Eve existed and God chose them to be an example. Everything in the Bible is about symbols. I respect the Bible, dont get me wrong, but it is a book full of mysteries, that's why so many ways of interpreting it.
Peace!

*Pats the question-asker on the head patronisingly*
There were cave-men deary. Don't you worry yourself over the details. You can go check in a museum when you are ready.
Besides... the nearest common male ancestor of all humans on earth is far closer in time than the nearest common female ancestor..... hence if there were an adam and eve, they would have existed several hundred years apart and never met. ^_^

Adam and Eve are metaphors for people living in a state of nature who figured out the difference between right and wrong, good and evil, and they were ashamed of themselves and hid.

Jews believe that Moses received the entire Torah on Mt. Sinai. This is a basic article of faith.
Atheists ascribe its sources to humans. Needless to say, Judaism (see Pereq Heleq) regards this as a VERY serious sin.

They are fictional, cavemen are very real, if adam and eve were real, everyone would be white, and there is always that issue with incest, if all people were spawned from two people, were are all imbred.

The creation story is just allegory about the origins of the people, Israel. The Tanach (OT) is simple a story about the relationship between God and His people, Israel.

That is Adam not Atam.
If you are religious then it is Adam and Eve.
If you are more scientific then it is the caveman (and not the ones in the GEICO commercial).
