My future husband and I just purchased our first home. The home is a small cape cod-936 sq ft. It already has forced air, a brand new furnace, and all the duct work is already in place. With that in mind, what would it cost to add central air?

A two-ton central air conditioner is all you need for that size home. It would help if we knew where you live. Prices vary by region, city, etc and also the Brand of the unit can make a big difference.
In the Midwest you can have a 2 ton unit installed between $2100--$3200 for a 13 SEER model. The price includes the coil, line-set, outside unit, electrical disconnect and pad.
Make sure you have return air supplies installed in the 2nd floor or you will not get proper air circulation and the upstainrs will be much warmer than down.
