HI there...
I am a firm believer of "Denavir". It is thru prescription only. You put it on the cold sore @ the very 1st sign of it & it will lessen the..."Ugliness" if I may. (once it erupts that is) :)
If you already HAVE the cold sore...then the denavir will "Hurry" the healing process.
Hopefully you have a Dr who can prescribe this for you? If not...then I am sorrie to say that I have NO CLUE as to an "Over The Counter" healer? It also TOTALLY (for me) relieves the Pain associated with cold sores...which is actually the lowest form of "Herpes". I, along W/ most of the population, get these when the weather changes. (hot 2 cold & vise versa)
Here is more reading on the subject.
GL 2 U & HAVE A GR8 DAY!!!!!!!

This drug is used in certain patients to treat outbreaks of herpes simplex on lips and skin of the face (cold sores). The virus that causes this infection lives in the body quietly until an outbreak is triggered. Penciclovir is not a cure for the infection, but treatment of an outbreak can speed up healing of the sores and decrease pain.

How to use Denavir Top
Wash hands with soap and water before applying this medication. Apply a layer of penciclovir cream to cover only the area of the cold sore or the area of tingling/itching/redness/swelling at the first signs of symptoms. Apply the cream every 2 hours while awake for 4 days or as directed by your doctor. After each application, do not touch any other part of your body or another person's body until you have washed your hands again with soap and water. Touching the body without washing the hands may lead to spreading of the virus to a new area or another person. Avoid use in or near the eyes since this medication can irritate the eyes. It is very important to continue using this medication exactly as prescribed by your doctor.

Dosage is based on your medical condition and response to therapy.

This medication works best when the amount of drug the skin receives stays at a constant level. Therefore, use this drug at evenly spaced intervals. To help you remember, use it at the same times each day.

Do not use more or less of this drug than prescribed or stop using it even for a short time unless directed to do so by your doctor. Skipping or changing your dose without approval from your doctor may decrease the effectiveness of the drug.

If you have insurance you should call your doctor and ask for a perscription of valtrex. When you first feel it coming you pop two pills and it will never surface. If it does surface DO NOT use chapstick, or lick it. The more moisture it gets the bigger it will get. Over the counter meds that help are abreva and Herpicine-L. I get these when I get too much sun or when I am really sick and they are the worst. I hope you can get a perscription so that it will save you for next time as well. Good luck and remember keep it dry as possible.

Ask your doctor for a prescription for Valtrex. If as soon as you feel a sore starting, you take half a pill, morning and night for 3 days, it will stop a cold sore. You will only have a small swollen spot that doesn't crust, and goes away in just a few days. If the sore is already well formed, it will stop getting any bigger start to heal immediately.

Believe it or not, use the spice Allum. Youmay not have this, but it can be easily found in any grocery. Take a small portion of the white spice, place it directly on the sore, and go to bed. Don't rinse your mouth. It tastes bad, but goes away. And it burns. Usually one application is all I need. Better than any thing I have tried on the drug shelf.

You can't beat Carmex . . . the stuff is a miracle drug, I swear! Cold sore's are viruses, viruses HATE being wet. Carmex dissolves the protective scab the virus coats itself with, leaving it open to being inundated with death delivering moisture.
