She does this for comfort. The only way it can be bad, is in terms of germs getting into her mouth, and after a while, meaning if she does this for years, she may get a serious overbite and may need braces later on in life. So for now it is okay, but if it continues past one or two, you should stop her.

thumb sucking is the worst a baby can do.
She'll get bucked teeth and if she doesnt grow out of it she'll get dogged about it at school. Give her a pacifier but dont let her keep it to long. Take it away before shes two years old. When its time to take it away tell her that other babies need pacies and she has to leave them in something for the paci fiery and the fiery will leave her a gift. Then when she checks the next day she'll have a gift waiting for her and she wont stress so much bout the pacies. But she has to want to do it.

well, hard question-most of the drs and ped dentists have told me no, especially not this young but you dont want the habit to go past 2 or 3 years old. Its a soothing method for them. some have even recomended a pacifier rather than the thumb b/c when its time to take it away-you can throw out the pacy but not the thumb. I wouldnt worry about it right now.

I don't think so. My 5 month old grandson has been sucking his for sometime now. My children sucked their thumb with no side affects. I don't know but don't most kids suck their thumb at some point. Its better then having a binky / pacifier when they get older. Just my opinion.

Infants have a natural desire for sucking; but I wouldn't encourage thumb sucking. You could try a pacifier, then take it away once teeth start coming in. My 8 year old nephew still sucks his thumb, and it has really messed up his teeth and his palate. (Not to mention the kids at school making fun of him...)

he's 4 months old so, basically enable him suck his thumb. he will likely outgrow it like maximum little ones. Mine nevertheless sucks his each once and a at the same time as at 8 months, yet no longer some thing like he did. i'm particular in some more beneficial months he will ignore all about the thumb.

YES....give them a pacifier. It will mess up their teeth and they will have a hitchhikers thumb later on.

I don't think so. It's cheaper than binkies/pacifiers. They're easier to keep clean. I have two thumbsuckers.

No - you'll cause her more distress by trying to stop it. She'll grow out of it naturally in her own time.
