Eventually it will damage the spring, but it will take a long time, and then you'll be out the relatively trivial cost of a spring.
More of an issue is the possibility of someone getting hold of the gun and pulling the trigger, not knowing it's loaded and ready to go.

In the instruction manuals of most(probably all) springers, as they are called, it says not to store ******. For more than one reason. Primarily safety reasons. Secondarily, spring-use reasons.
Side note: I had bought my first springer for xmas 2006(actually it was a gift). It was a crosman air rifle. In February it exploded. The stock was crappy. I still have a scar on my face. So first of all, I would recommend not ordering from Crosman. Secondly I would suggest researching what types of wood are used in your springers. I would actually recommend a synthetic stock to wood, as they would be less likely to explode and have the receiver hit you and knock you out, as my Crosman Quest 800x did. By the way, I ordered mine from pyramidair.com. My air rifle exploded only 2 months(approx) after I purchased it. But pyramidair.com refused to do anything about it. They only have a 30 day "guarantee".
Good LUck..

hi there, i have an old springer, probably 35 years old ,i rebuilt it 12 years ago, and cronoed it at 960 fps, i fired a few thousand 177's, and cronoed it again 740 fps a year later, since then it has lived in my work shed ****** and loaded, when i seen your question i called my buddy with the cronograph and we tested it on the weekend 722fps ,so that tells me that leaving the weapon ****** dosn't seem to have hurt the spring preasure or tension at all.

How long, a few days can be okay, but to keep it working like new, clear the wep and store it uncocked.
