I noticed my cat has hurt her tail. I feel really bad that i didnt notice this before. It looks like it happened a little while ago as the end of her tail seems to be scabbed over. I think she has either been in a fight or got in caught in something. I have had a good look and there is a scab on the end of her tail about the size of my little finger nail and i cant see the real extent of the damage it seems to be ok, i see no signs of infection or anything. Just wondered if this could casue her problems with balance or anything like that. I would have taken her to the vets if i had spotted it in the 1st place. As it does not appear to infected i dont really see the point, I just want reasurance she will be ok i guess.

keep it clean and put neosporin on it.. try to distract her while it soaks in a bit as she will lick it off but the longer you keep it on the better.. if you want you can get an e-collar(lamp shade thingy) at petsmart or petco.. if it looks ok thing balance etc should be fine...I would keep a close eye on her as she could have picked up many things if its a cat fight but if the whole end of it is scabbed rather than more like a scratched end then she might have been run over...if that is the case it will heal and it might be crooked and probably have little or no feeling in it... check for bite marks...if you find puntures then your cat dould have wrestled with just about anything, another cat, dog, fox, etc... check her whole body thoroughly...look closely... feel, push, rub,etc... if she seems tender anywhere else take her in for a checkup... if not keep a close eye on it and keep it clean like I ststed prior.... It sounds like it will be OK... but please check out all of her body very closely....good luck..smile

I have a cat that had something similar to happen to him he had apparently had a flea on his tail and bit himself trying to kill the flea well as it was healing it started to itch so he kept cleaning it (licking and chewing at it) well it made a larger place nearly 1/2 inch long. I took nearly a month to get it to heal because he wouldn't leave it alone. Neosporin will work just follow the advice you got in one of the previous post and keep her occupied for a little while after applied. As for the balance problem; she won't be affected by that at all. I also have a cat that her mother chewed her tail off during birth and she has no balance problems at all. (the balance thing is just an old wives tale) Don't worry cats have been taking care of themselves many many years before humans ever came into contact with them they instinctively know what to do to help themselves but I do understand how you feel about not wanting anything to harm them in any way.

She could have had her tail run over. As long as it's clean and there is no other damage it should be fine, although if it is from a fight, she could have picked up Feline Aids or Leukemia so a vet visit is a good idea to check that out in any case.

Cats bounce back pretty easily from minor injuries like that. She will make sure that her cut stays clean so, you shouldn't have to worry about that. Just keep watching it as it heals and, relax she'll be fine!!

if it's just a scab she will be fine. it will only hurt her balance if it is broken, and from the description it is not.
