14 week old Doberman puppy with diarrhea for the past 3 nights - out about 7 times. I don't understand because he's fine all day, I fed him at 6pm last night and he only starts with the diarrhea at about 11pm till 7am (of course when I'm trying to sleep!) I know he should go to the vet but I'd like to try what I can first because there's really no reason for him to have these loose stools. No change in diet, took the rawhides away 2 days ago (thought that might be the cause), hasn't been out of the yard, doesn't appear or act ill otherwise. Open to advice before I have to make that $$$$$ trip to the vet. Thanks

He was dewormed with his last set of puppy shots March 2nd. I've checked his stools - yucky - but can't grossly see any signs of worms. Open to advice before I have to make that $$$$$ trip to the vet. Thanks

Hi nsidealgifts!
Diarrhea (loose or watery stools) is not a disease in itself, but simply a very obvious symptom that something is not quite right with the intestinal system. We're so used to having a short bout of diarrhea ourselves, that most people don't get too alarmed when they notice their pet has diarrhea, and rightly so; most of the time the problem is minor and self correcting. But sometimes, it's obvious that the problem is more serious, either because the diarrhea has become persistent over the last few days, or the pet is weak and listless, or there are additional problems such as vomiting, or blood in the stool. In cases like this, it's time to have a veterinarian examine the patient. Please look article: http://www.askedweb.com/askedweb/Diarrhea/

I would recommend a good examination by your veterinarian. This will help detect any developing health problems as early as possible.

My puppy had the same thing. Her issue was that she ate something that was hard on her system, we found out later that it was these really hard scratchy bean pods that was irritating her intestines and the mucas is created to lubricate the passage of it. She was acting perfectly fine too. Running around playing. Hers got bad before it got better and there was blood in it but she is fine. If thats what you think it is our vet told us to give her either ground beef or wet food because it softens everything in their system. Unfortunately, it could be a hundred things too that are more serious. I would probably still shell out the $$ to have her chacked out. Don't worry too much 99% of the time it is nothing.

I still think you should at least call the vet. Raw hides aren't for every dog. I don't give my dogs them because it relly disrupts their digestive track. I gave them raw hide sticks and one did fine the other started with stools covered in mucus. I rushed him to the vets and was told NO more raw hides, no pig ears, no nothing even like that. So since I stopped giving him those things no more problems. It took a while for things to clear up but it did.
Hope this helps you out.

I also have a puppy and after the worm shot, if your puppy got that, they will have little white strands and some mucus in their stool. If you are giving them raw hides at so young it can be a bit upsetting to their digestive tract, or he/she may be reacting to their food, it could be a food allergy. Make sure your dog has enough water not to be thirsty but don't let them have bowl after bowl, that will sometimes lead to loose doo doos. If it continues, you make want to speak to your vet . hope you and your dog do ok :)

Most puppies have worms and need to be dewormed by a vet, not over the counter with cheap wal mart junk that doesnt work. Its normal to have worms at a early age. You should take him in, and just tell them you want a intestional parasite check, its usually around $15, plus the office visit.

It could be F-strain parvo-virus, take him off to the vet as parvo can cause fatal symptoms. It could be Campylobacteriosis which is food poisoning. Has he eaten any of the recalled foods in Nth America?

Get him off to the vet ASAP

I would take the puppy to the vet, he may have worms or something if he keeps going so much, or it could be something he at. I'd spend the money and take him to the vet.
