Should I shake hands or kiss her on the cheek? She's a sociable person and fairly down to earth, aparently...thanks

Go to shake hands and if she leans in to kiss your cheek, do the same. Follow her lead, that is always best.
If you shake hands and she wants to kiss your cheek, she will think of you as aloof and if you go to kiss her cheek and she wants to shake hands, she may think you are a bit over friendly.
I know it sounds awkward but really, just follow her lead. Relax and don't worry too much about it, it will come naturally.

definnitely not the kiss, just shake hands and smile. Kissing is being a little too over-familiar at this early stage of your relationship. Say how pleased you are to meet her, that her son is always telling you what a wonderful cook she is or something like that. A little bit of flattery in the first few sentences will make an enormously good impression.
Good luck.

OOOOOoooo Just greet her with a Hug at first, smile :) be friendly show you're interested. You don't want to come across as being over-confident. I had a bad experience like this in the past and i found that the mother thought i was an over the top person who thought i was full of myself lol.. i was just trying to be a little friendly.. obviously a little too friendly for her liking lol

You could take a cue from her, but I would extend my hand. Don't be to clingy with her son regardless of how intimate you are. Remember your manners and send a short note letting her know how pleased you were to meet her. Send the note within one week! Your concern is understood, but you will be just fine. Enjoy learning about you boyfriend's family then you can better understand who he is as a man.

Shaking hands with a big smile is a safe choice.

I would start with a smile and extend my hand but you really need to follow her lead. Taking her something that she like
(for example flowers, candle or something that she collects) can get you you bonus points too. Just a token, small, classy and inexpensive.

Oh, I remember those days!! Thanks for the nostalgic smile. :)

Your best bet is to simply smile and offer your hand for a handshake. Then follow her lead if she pulls you in for a hug or a kiss on the cheek.

Just be yourself, and you'll be great!!

Good luck!

Shake her hand, but if she goes for the hug or kiss, reciprocate warmly. It means she already likes you.

I would offer to shake her hand first. If she wishes to give you a stronger greeting she will. Good luck.

Follow her lead. Taking a small potted plant as a gift is also impressive.
