Just curious, if you believe there is no God, why do you try so hard to prove He doesn't exist? Why do you come into the spiritual room? Do you think you are going to change our minds? I see more atheists on here being hateful than the Christians.....

I see that I have offended alot of people. That was not my intent, and I am sorry. I was just curious.. unfortunately there are a lot of christians that try to force their beliefs on others, but understand that is because they love you and want you to live forever in heaven.

As an atheist, I do NOT try so hard to prove that god does not exist. That is not our task, The proof is to be provided by those who claim that god does exist. We know that you cannot with any credible answer and quotes from the bible or other fairy stories are not credible proof. Answers such as 'God did it' are not evidence at all.
I come here ... oh dear! This has been answered so many times ... because I have an interest in religion and I wish to enter into debate. The main problem is that there are so few people here who know how to debate the issues.
Remember that one doesn't need to be suffering from AIDS to have an interest in discussing it. Same with religion.
I would hope that a seed of logic would be planted in some minds by our reasoning and more mature answers.
You see what you want to see. You believe what you want to believe. Both regardless of the facts.
Don't believe everything that you see or read or are told. Ask profound questions now and then and not old chestnuts like this one.
Do the historical research about religion, as in the religions before christianity, and see how your bible is a rehash of even older stories, etc, etc.
Research some science facts and ask questions as to how they could possibly affect the way intelligent people to come to certain conclusions ...
There's a whole world of questions out there and all we get from you is this one. You can surely do better than this?

It is a shame that so many atheists answer with hate. But consider for a moment what it has been like being an atheist in the U.S. for the last 30 years, and especially the first six years of George W. Bush's presidency. There has been a lot of talk of this being a "Christian Nation", and even some people hear saying we would be better off as a Christian Theocracy. Atheists are called immortal, and are the least trusted category of people. From my point of view, I am *more* moral than the God of your Old Testament, and most Christians today. I have never condoned slavery. I try my hardest to erase any bigotry and biases that I was raised with. I think the reason America is great is because our constitution guarantees separation of church and state, in order to prevent the kind of corruption that has happened under G.W. Bush. -- corruption of both the state and the Christian church. I am here because this section is for the one aspect of Society & Culture that I am most deeply concerned about, and I hope to make biased & selfish Christians a little more aware of what atheists are really like.

I don't try to prove he doesn't exist because I know you can't prove a negative. [That also means it's down to religionists to prove that God actually exists... any time will do... we've waited over 2,000 years already so there's no rush]

Perhaps you just feel uncomfortable sharing this room with people who have opinions and beliefs that run contrary to your own and like so many religionists your approach seems to be to deny others the right to express those opinions freely and openly. If your faith and religion is so rock-solid then you should be able to stand a little criticism - so what's your problem... those nasty atheists asking questions that you haven't got cut-and-paste ready-made answers for?

If Christians insist on being "hateful" by telling me I'm going to hell, that I'm a sinner or that I'm somehow a second class citizen because I don't believe every word in their silly book then they must expect that in a free society I am going to tell them that they are wrong, that God does not exist, that the World is very obviously more than 6,000 years old, that the evidence for evolution is overwhelming whilst that for Creationism is virtually non-existent and that maybe they should follow their own teachings and not judge others. Try turning the other cheek a few times.

One of the main reasons I come to this section is to counter the kind of religious intolerance and narrow-mindedness that you have just so neatly demonstrated.

I thought you invited me by your question? And I personally mostly ask to find out what people think, not to prove or disprove something, which I suggest is pointless.

But since I'm here, can I just take issue with one thing? You say "Christians that try to force their beliefs on others, but understand that is because they love you and want you to live forever in heaven." But atheists trying to change your minds are hateful? Sorry, but I just don't get that.

Thank you for your question anyway.

I thought this was a section for open discussion, and I like discussion. When a question is directed to believers only, I do not answer, but with all others why should I not add my opinion? And there are even many questions directed at atheists here. There is no section for atheists, and if there were one, I bet it would be crowded with believers too.
I can only speak for myself and I try to avoid name calling and such, but I am not an English native speaker, therefore there might be misunderstandings. If I ever sounded hateful or disrespectful, please accept my apologies. But on the other hand, if I think that a question is misleading, suggestive or outright stupid, I reserve the right to say so.

Thanks for spelling atheist correctly, by the way.

both atheists and Christians feel that they are right, and yes, atheists do feel that they can enlighten the minds of those who do believe, that there is something that can be learned about blind faith. But on the other hand how can Christan's be frustrated with atheists trying to educate the masses when Christians try to go out and "save" people? it really is the same concept, spreading a religion, or lack thereof.

please keep in mind i am neither christain or athiest, just an educated observer.

For the Christians......?

Just curious, if you believe there is no Odin, why do you try so hard to prove He doesn't exist? Why do you come into the spiritual room? Do you think you are going to change our minds? I see more Christians on here being hateful than the Pagans.....

Not again.

You do know that these get asked about a billion times on here but you, conveniently enough, just summarized all the most annoying questions you can ask into one.

Very well, I'll humor you but I do get tired of answering these when they could be answered if you bothered to use the search function.

1. We try to prove he doesn't exist because you religious think you do (and should) rule the world and force everyone else to live by what you do. Newsflash, not everyone in the world is Christian and you're going to have to learn to accept that sooner rather than later. In order to ensure that everyone is free to practice their religion any way they want, SECULARISM (not religion) MUST rule. If it does not, the world is going to continue to fight between the religions and war will be the result. At least that way you KNOW that no one gets favored EXCEPT whats good for all people instead of "what one religion thinks is best".

2. We come here because, contrary to what Christians think, Atheists find education to be a good thing. About everything. The problem is that Atheists usually end up coming here to defend themselves, and everyone else, against the Christians and already seem to know alot more than the Christians. Everyone else gets chased away almost immediately because Christians just come into questions to say nasty things to whoever it is that doesn't believe as they do. Or, even worse, they come into questions that are simply curious and good for information and are rude and nasty.

3. No Atheist CARES if you change your mind. You can believe all you want to believe. What they care about is that you KEEP YOUR RELIGION TO YOURSELF. Namely... don't harass other people about your religion, don't come into threads telling someone that they "need to find god" when they belong to other religions, don't try to get your religion legislated as law, and keep your religion out of our schools. Why? Because it only causes more fights than its worth, thats why.

I see alot more Christians being alot more hateful than ANYTHING Atheists say on here.

We just want you to BUTT OUT of other peoples lives.

I'm a Christian, but it seems to me that Christians are the ones usually trying to change minds, Atheists have a reputation for being evil blood-drinking people who shoplift and use drugs.....but most of them are law-abiding people who just don't have a religion...

Christians have a very "the world revolves around my religion" thing going on...if somebody says, "I'm an atheist," then Christians hear, "I don't believe in God." What atheists are actually saying is they don't believe in ANY religion....newsflash: there are other religions out there other than Christianity.

Basically, Christians are more guilty of trying to change people's minds because they think it's their job to do so.

Just like anybody else , you see what you want to see. I didn't come into the "spiritual" room, the question came up as one in an "all categories " session.
I don't try hard at all to prove that God doesn't exist.... as far as i'm concerned it's up to you to prove that he does. And another thing, "spirituality" has absolutely nothing to do with believing in God or not.
