They are not suppose to be long like a Doxie's would be. Every dog is different. I have purebred Pomeranian, but her body is a little longer than it's suppose to be.
As long as you weren't planning to show her and it's not causing her any problems, I wouldn't worry about it. She may grow into her body with time.

Sounds like you have a shorty jack. I own jack russells and I have a shorty in the group(my personal favorite by the way) Many jack russell breeders are against the shorty also known as the English Jack Russell. (http://www.ejrtca.com). If you check their website you will notice that AKC acceptance is not far off for these little guys. Foundation stock has already been accepted by the AKC. You will find the breed history here too. As the shorty gains popularity, Jack Russell breeders are beginning to accept them as legit jacks. I race and compete in go to ground with my jacks. A few years ago shorties were not allowed to compete. At my last event, shorties made up the largest group. So don't let anyone tell you she's not a true Jack.

We have a little male jack russels he is quite big compared to some i have seen around my area, as he's rather stocky. He has a longish body but shortish legs. My jack russells also has wiry long hair and big digging paws so you see they pretty much do come in lots of different sizes and coats etc. He has been known to get his rats once whilst i was walking him on the lead, i nearly had a panic attack as he wouldnt drop the thing.
To people that think Jack Russells that arent the required measurements are horrible and puds etc. At the end of the day it doesnt matter what the dog looks like they are part of your family. No dog is horrible
Verminki might have been right but he said it in a very aggressive manner which there was definitely no need for also Jasmine most people are happy with whatever dog they have doesnt matter about the shape or pedigree as long as they have a dog with good nature etc. My dog isn't pedigree in fact i would say he more Cross Jack Russell but i wouldnt change him for the world. Dogs are still wild creatures and they will pretty much mate with whatever they want to mate with thats another reason why there so many mixes
ADDED
I agree only reputable breeders should breed dogs in fact i think people should have a licence to breed their dogs. We had my dog from a rescue home still in tact so we chose to have him neutered just in case he ever got out the garden. There are so many dogs out there looking for homes and you have more and more people letting theirs breed.

Jack Russell Terriers are very energetic dogs and require better than only your favourite "pat and a marvelous notice" self interest. i does no longer call the breed self sustaining as they love human affection and could do lots in direction of receiving it... no rely if that is sweet or undesirable. it incredibly is in no way your novices dogs or for somebody who would not comprehend what they're doing. Jacks are mischievous little devils and could tutor it in all procedures attainable. Jack Russells climb, meaning they'd climb over a fence, they additionally bounce. A Jack that stands 12 inches intense can certainly bounce 5 ft. A fence is a would desire to. All dogs would desire to be bathed as quickly as a month-to-month and brushed weekly. different breeds would selection yet it incredibly is the priority-loose and what you could assume while possessing a Jack. undergo in concepts, there's a marvelous type of laying off in contact. You because of the fact the owner would desire to be very company and save the small dogs decrease than administration as aggression themes and "p.c.. chief" issues can many times take place with such breed. training is an hassle-free activity with this breed yet being a terrier ability that stubbornness would be an argument with specific dogs. i will tutor a dogs to take a seat down in 5 minutes flat. that is extremely no longer that no longer hassle-free, being consistent is.. although they're a dogs for losing interest and detrimental while left on my own for long hours. you could assume to come again abode to a backyard packed with ripped vegetation, torn papers and chewed up fixtures. each and on a daily basis playtimes and walks are a would desire to as with every different breeds. in case you probably did no longer comprehend maximum of this already, you certainly would desire to postpone this week off and do only that little greater analyze. it incredibly is going to be extremely worth it interior the top nevertheless. good success.

Jack Russells are not recognised by the KC in the Uk so there is a tendency for all small working type terriers to be called "Jack Russells". They are recognised in other countries & do have a breed standard though, which states that they should be longer than they are high. In general, bitches in any breed tend to be slightly longer than dogs. As with any breed, body shape & proportions will vary between individuals.

Jack Russels come in all shapes and sizes. The little ones you see today are not the orginal size, shape, or even have the same coat. The original was bred by the Reverand Jack Russell, hence it's name. It was a lot taller than today's and a longish wiry coat because he bred them to hunt rabbits etc, in hedgerows. Todays Jack Russell as been bred and interbred to make it smaller so it can go down a rabbit hole, and for other things also, I.E. rats, vermin etc.. A lot of people have them simply for pets now and that isn't what they were bred for. You have to be careful with a jack because they will kill a babe or very small tot. They are a very tenacious little dog and the Royal Mail did a survey to find out which dog the postie feared the most, yes it was the jack. A little laugh for you all. My sons friend called for him one evening to go for a drink, the jack took one look and ran at him, he jumped up to bite and just happened to catch something between his legs and hung there. We had to prise his jaws open to free the poor lad. You wouldn't even recognise today's jack with the original. From what you say I think I would say she has bow legs, a little like john wayne used to walk lol. If she's like that and long and her legs are like that she was bred to hunt. Or her parents were.

Sorry, but Verminkiller IS right.
Poorly bred dogs by people breeding dogs that dont know what their doing cause many different things to happen to the appearance of breeds. Not to mention underlying health and behavioral problems, that you may or may not be aware of just yet..
Its a shame too because for hundreds of years, reputable breeders who have made a life long commitment to better the breed and bring the breed closer to excellence is quickly ruined by owners that dont know what their doing and send things into reverse all over again, just because they wanted to 'have puppies' or were too cheap to have their dog fixed.
To make it easier to understand :
Strange or varying shapes and sizes in any breed =
Someone that did not know what they were doing.
Had or HAVE, NO buisness breeding dogs.
When you watch a dog show, and you see your favorite breed or any of those breeds....remind yourself that the dog your looking at is a product of years of work, commitment and education about the breed.
Its not just a pretty doggie that someone thought would be nice enough to show!!
***By the way, any "rescue" group that adopts a NON spayed or neutered animal out, should not be calling themselves a "rescue"!***
ADDED:
Let me inform you of one other fact!!!
I personally have a toy poodle that I rescued from the pound in my area. She has MAJOR flaws. BUT, I love her dearly.
SHE is spayed. You see, THAT is the way it should be done.
Some of the pounds are more of a rescue than ALOT of other rescues around. Even though they ARE a kill shelter - they do NOT adopt out animals without an adoption fee which off sets the cost of spay and neuter before they leave the shelter!
No animal leaves the shelter without being spayed or neutered FIRST.
All I did was state the facts and facts are facts.
ONLY reputable breeders should be breeding dogs.
NOT PEOPLE WHO THINK "THEIR DOG WOULD MAKE SUCH CUTE LITTLE DOGGIES"

Jack Russells come in various sizes. True ones have the long legs. Yours was probably at the front of the queue when the bodies were being dished out.

We breed Jack Russells and even from the same litter you can get different body shapes. We even have one that's really tall and doesn't look like a Russell right now
