Are you serious? With the amount of conmen/conwomen in this world living their lives lying and cheating people, how does anyone ever know anything for sure? Short of hiring a private detective to scope out his house or planting a camera somewhere in there, you should just trust your instincts.

love is an action, not a state of hormones and it's something you share and it involves intimacy and no, intimacy doesn't mean sex, it means personally knowing the deepest things about someone you also allow them to know about your own deepest things. love takes time, it lives and grows and it requires work and honesty and trust and vulnerability.
being "in love" is probably just a crush mixed with lust to you and because your serotonin and neuro transmitters are going all berserk you think it's more serious than it really is, it's like you're high and not being logical or sensible.
if you want to know if he's married ask him, if you don't trust him then you're stupid for thinking you could love someone you don't even trust.

When you say you do not know if he is married why are you asking?
Has he told you something that makes you suspicious?
Are you in a relationship with him as you dont say. I can only advise that if you are in a relationship with him and are suspicious you need to ask yourself are you basing that suspicion on his behaviour or is it just you feeling insecure.
If you dont trust him-why not?

Well first you should ask him. Second if he doesn't give you his home address or home phone that is a sign. You can always follow him. Background checks can also be done.

Have you tried asking him? If not look at his finger for tan lines. Or see if he just switches hands every time he sees a pretty lady.

If you ask him, and he is married, he'll either evade the issue, or lie outright. I asked one and he evaded the issue, and the other would have lied probably if I did.
